Hi - Asking for my son he has a low testosterone (9) and a high T3 ( sorry no numbers) This has been tested three times always with the same results. The consultant he is under has no clue as to the answer! We just need answers - any thought gratefully received Thanks

As far as I know a high T3 could be hyperthyroidism:-

I am not medically qualified.

I would suggest your son get a private blood test and we have two labs which will do all of the necessary ones. We also need to have the ranges of the blood tests along with the results. This is due to labs having different machines thus different ranges and it helps members to respond. Tests should be TSH, T4, T3, Free T4, Free T3 and thyroid antibodies.

It should be a very early a.m. test and don't eat before it but water can be taken. If on thyroid hormones you'd allow a gap of 24 hours from last dose and test.

Make sure son is well-hydrated a couple of days before blood draw and arms/hands are warm.

Some surgeries will draw blood for you but the lab will advise. Most do it themselves and they might advise you as well.

GP should test B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate.

Blue Horizon and Medichecks are the labs and they are helpful if you have any queries. Medichecks have a special offer every Thursday.

Consultant so presumably went through meds school...

Seem like an.idiot to.Me, should not treat humans or animals.

Low testosterone - needs supplementing

High t3, you need more info with that. What is his t4 and TSH? That's suggested hyperthyroidism but again what are the numbers? Is he slightly over or very much over?

I can't believe they run only two hormonal tests!

He will have a lot more blood results in his records. Can you request to see them and get a copy.

Could his signalling from the brain be faulty?

LH tells the testicles to make testosterone. Is this low? Is FSH low which tells the testicles to make sperm

What is the SHBG level?

How old is he? Has he gone through puberty?

The testosterone range is now starting at 8 and goes up to 31 I think.

How much does he weight? Is he very fat or overweight?

Any operations on the testicles in the past?

Lots of questions I am afraid
