Poor results information from Guys&StThomas

Having previously recommended Guys&St Thomas’s hospital I have to say I have now received poor service. I saw a brilliant Consultant initially who fully endorsed NDT. He asked me to return for FU blood tests and consultation after 2 months. The arrangements are that you see anyone on return visits. I met a different consultant who before I had said anything asked me if I was a thyroid activist and said that Dr Skinner was charlatan. I explained that the previous consultant had confirmed that I should take NDT as I had problems with Levothyroxine. I talked about antibody load and that I was gluten free and wanted to see if there was a reduction. I also explained that GP would not do T3 unless requested by secondary care. He said I would receive the result.

After 3 months! and repeated requests this finally arrived which is a copy letter to the GP-no reference ranges and no information on antibodies or future T3 monitoring. Clearly he didn’t listen to a word I said. The coeliac test would be negative as I am gluten free so there was little point. I was clearly judged before I opened my mouth. I live in Kent and travelled in to London for this appointment. The reference ranges are different and the GP will be none the wiser.

I have made a complaint and requested the biochemistry results and still waiting for the service delivery manager to contact me.

I am sorry your post seemed to have been missed for a response, which is extremely unusual.

That Endo enquired whether you were an activist and that Dr Skinner was a Charlatan, he is an ignorant man and you are far better off than seeing him for attempting to recover your health. Dr Skinner was so experienced as he was being sent patients who kept complaining of 'mysterious symptoms' and he recognised it was a dysfunction of the thyroid gland.

When we get a 'service' such as you've had with ignorant man, your better off treating yourself. At least you have more of a chance of feeling much better.

Just in case, copy and paste your above post onto a new one and you may get more responses. I've rarely seen a post that hasn't been aswered.

We are so full of hope when we get referred to an Endocrinologist but, unfortunately, most will not know use their initiatives to help patients but stick to the levo alone.

Thank you for your reply. I will not return to that clinic it is run badly. The first consultant was fabulous he listened carefully was very good however pressures on the system mean you get anyone next time it’s pot luck. I am confident to run things myself anyway I just needed verification that NDT was the best for me. I was contacted by Thyroid UK for his name. It seems he is a bigwig writing policy which does not bode well.

It would not surprise me that this person could be one of those who assists in providing the guidelines (I am only guessing of course) as it is this type of professional who is so conceited that they are determined to get their own way regardless of the damage to some patients who cannot get well on levothyroxine alone.

It is also this kind of doctor who is determined that other doctors should not treat/prescribe for their patients as they wish and enable patient to recover and is happy when doctors are put in front of the GMC for treating patients as they were taught as trainee doctors.
