Do you mean you want to increase your dose of T3?
I'm sure there are many members who take 5mg, and many more members who take more. But whatever suits them may not be right for you.
We often read to split the dose, usually into 2, first dose in the morning, second dose in the afternoon or evening. Some people like bedtime dosing as it helps them sleep better, others have tried that and it disturbs their sleep.
I used to split my T3 dose and got fed up of trying to time the second dose, no afternoon coffee/biscuit, etc. So I started taking it all in one dose in the morning. I found no difference. Other people have tried one single dose and they find that it doesn't work for them, they need an afternoon dose.
It's all individual, trial and error, so experiment and see what suits you.
Hi Susie
I have been taking half the 5mg pill as struggled with taking it all at once I am sensitive to Thyroid meds or medication in general it seems. I tried the other half before lunch and the other half around 330pm and it didn't make me feel great (the lunch time dose) so I am thinking maybe the other half needs to go with my T4 in the AM. I just didn't want to feel rubbish taking both at the same time.
What would you suggest maybe I could add a quarter of the 5mg pill with my T4 in the morning and see how I get on along with the half 5mg pill at 330pm? And then increase it to the full half in the morning with my T4. My last blood tests showed I was undermedicating and I have held off doing my medichecks Thyroid panel until I have increased the T3 again to the 5mg dose I should be on. I am also on 62.5mg t4 in the morning, which is two 25mg pills and one 25mg split (the dose I am on is to reflect the 75mg t4 alone I used to be on before getting T3)
Is it right to hold off on the bloods until I up the T3? My endo told me to up it as it's a tiny dose I am on and I still feel lethargic and zombiefied most of the time along with feeling sore.
Thanks Susie 😊
All you can really do is experiment and see how it goes. Personally, as you are so sensitive then I would try splitting the dose and take the first half in the morning, the second half leave as it is now.
Thanks Susie, I will try. I just hope it doesn't make me more ill, mornings are usually when I feel symptomatic but maybe the extra half would wake me up and make me feel better? It is very small doses
Susie when I first when on the T3 I was told by endo to lower my T4 I was originally 75mg T4 I was on only.
Is it wise to try upping the T3 to the full 5mg dose first along with my 62.5mg T4 or try upping my T4 and keeping half the T3? I just felt I need to get to the 5mg T3 at least or it might not even be beneficial to me.
I'm feeling exhausted every day at the moment and sore all over so something needs to change, I have my medichecks kit was keeping it until I changed doses but I might test it at the weekend maybe to see what's going on but I suspect I am under dosing hence the exhaustion and soreness? What do you think? I posted my last test results awhile ago from March can repost them if needs be.
Thanks for your advice
Hi - I am about to start on the same dose and was told to take it twice a day so plan to take one first thing with my levo and another in the afternoon. Have you been taking it for long?
Hi there
I got given it last October, been taking half the 5mg pill as I seemed to get bad side affects taking it all at once, I am very sensitive to drugs for some reason.
Right now I take half he 5mg pill at 330pm or 4pm before dinner, but I really need to add the other half in. I tried adding it before lunch and just felt awful, so I was thinking adding it to my t4. Just wasn't sure if that would make me feel worse?
What dose of T4 are you on?
Oh dear that is what i'm worried about it potentially making me feel worse. What side effects have you been getting? You have done well to persevere since October then has it not helped at all? I am currently taking 100/125mcg Levo alternate days and been advised to drop to 75mcgs when adding in the T3.
I think your body adjusts to it within a few weeks I just remember when I first introduced it I felt dizzy and had sweats and panicky. But maybe because I took r all at once, it's strange though as 5mg really is a tiny dose but the pill is quite powerful.
I am on a lower dose of T4 than you 62.5mg and my last bloods showed I was undermedicating as I only take half the t3 pill plus my dose of T4 above. So I really need to up the T3 to its full 5mg to probably see any real benefits. It does help you become awake though I definitely notice when I take it I am more alert and alive 😅 maybe try split your doses until your body adjusts to it I am sure you will be fine though. Everybody else who takes T3 seems to do well on it I have just have some issues adjusting I also think my female hormones aren't right and the Endo is investigating this at the moment 😊
Thanks Misty - hope you start to feel better I have heard it's good to start cautiously. Will update you after I've started taking it
Good luck I am sure it will do wonders for you
Fingers crossed!
Will you split the 5mg pill or take the full pill and what times?
Leaning towards just taking one 5mcg pill with my Levo first thing then add in the other pill if all ok after a week or so. Does this seem sensible?
oh sorry I thought you meant you were only on 5mg too.
I would say start with the 5 and then add the other 5 gradually maybe after a week or so seen how your body feels with it. 10 at once might be a lot at once if your not used to it but everybody is different
