Iron supplement

I am taking Iron bisglysinate because of low ferritin. Is it ok to take it once a day, 200ug dose? Or should it be divided into two doses (100x2)? - Because of thyroid hormone replacement therapy that would be trickier. Also, empty stomach or with some food? (No coffee, milk of course)

Trying to get the ferritin level up.

Thanks.

Can I check the dose, is it 200 microgram as you've typed it? that is a very small dose equivalent to 0.2 mg.

Iron bisglycinate is highly absorbed which means you don't need larger doses compared to ferrous fumarate and ferrous sulfate but your indicated dose is very small even smaller than the required dose for infants.

Unless you meant 2 x 10 mg which is fine and you can take it once a day

Sorry! I meant 200mg!

I just read about a study (up-to-date.com) - which said that alternate day dosing (taking iron every other day, rather than every day) may result in better iron absorption.

Also; iron absorption was best when dosing was restricted to lower doses and less frequent administration (40 to 80 mg of iron no more than once a day.)

So.. I am thinking if 200mg iron bisglysinate once a day is working?

Advices on this area are so contradictory. Thank you for replying!

The only product that I have come across with such a hefty amount of Iron bisglycinate is Trophic iron Chelazone (Canada) which has:

Ferrous Bisglycinate ………… 205 mg

Providing Elemental Iron ……. 40 mg

Yes, I have come across the recommendation of every other day, and taken once a day, as below:

I am trying to reduce my ferritin!

Please refer to gotmag.org and the dangers of high iron. You have to test several things before thinking you are low in iron. There is also a Facebook group. Good luck then please share what you learn.

There are 66 articles on excess iron

Also YouTube that.

Thanks, it was tested and confirmed by a doctor as very low. So no worries of high iron here.

Thank you for your concern.
