Safe enlarged thyroid/non-toxic goiter?

I have a non-toxic goiter, both lobes almost equally enlarged, with multiple cysts and one 1 cm nodule that the radiologist believes is "probably benign" (has not been biopsied yet). My TSH and everything is fine, and I feel fine (except for what I believe to be my recent Lupus flare ups, but that's a separate issue). It has been like this for two years, with not much change except the goiter has shrunk a bit.

I have heard that people can often live perfectly fine lives with enlarged thyroids, without need for medication or thyroidectomy surgery...is this true?? Is there anyone out there with a similar thyroid situation that's living a normal life with an enlarged goiter??

Do you have your actual numbers - results and ranges? Because what doctors think is 'fine', often isn't!

Thanks for the response! I guess what I mean is I actually feel fine (aside from my lupus flare ups), so I guess what I'm really asking is if it's possible for someone to NOT have thyroid cancer and live a happy life with a goiter/enlarged thyroid?

Well, I suppose it could be. But, if there's a goitre, there's obviously some sort of problem with the thyroid. Perfectly healthy thyroids don't develop goitres. So, even if you feel fine now, you might not always feel so. It needs careful watching.
