advice please:

Nov 13, 2017 -

ferritin iron 16 (10-232)

Vitamin D 30 (30-100)

Symptoms- terrible fatigue and anxiety, joint pain, stomach discomfort.

Jan 26, 2018-

ferritin iron 21 (10-232)

Vitamin D 57 (30-100)

i have been supplementing with 50 MG iron bisglycinate since Nov 13 and taking vitamin D, and gone gluten free. It made a huge difference to my fatigue and anxiety.

March 2018 -Disillusioned with Endocrinologists I went to a highly recommended Holistic doctor. He was not interested in increasing my levo, which I think could be slightly tweaked: my free T3 is 2.6 (2.3-4.2) He was not interested in iron supplementation. He was fixed on repairing my leaky gut in order to restore normal absorption and control the production of antibodies in my system.

I had some really expensive blood tests done which showed,

1) creation of antibodies to oats, rice, dairy, sesame, buckwheat

2) evidence of abnormal gut permeability

3) abnormal levels of individual antibodies ( precursor to crohns, colitis etc)

He sold me expensive supplements which I do not think made a difference. I cut out the above reactive foods. I started snacking on almonds. After three weeks I had an epiphany! High fiber foods like almonds give me terrible gas, bloating, pain. I stopped eating ALL high fiber foods and tummy immediately felt better.

I was very happy until last week. I had a bad cold-and then my period started. I was still feeling normal until about day three of my period. Then my anxiety and fatigue came back....joint pain never went away...... I'm so bummed...

Any suggestions? How many MG of Iron should I be supplementing with?

Thank you all for your advice.

What are the rest of your thyroid results? Your t3 looks low as you say. It should be in the upper quarter of the range to be optimal.

The downward facing arrow under you post. Click on it and then click on 'edit' in the drop-down menu. :)

I can't advise you how much iron to take, but I agree with you that you need to increase your FT3 level. You don't give an FT4 result so impossible to tell how well you convert. Nor do you tell us what or how much you are taking. We really do need all the details to be able to help.

My personal opinion is that holistic doctors aren't very much use when it comes to thyroid. But, healing your leaky gut would be of great advantage to you. You don't say you have Hashi's, but I'm guessing you do. So, he's right about that. And, when it is healed, you can go on to find a doctor that does know something about thyroid! :)
