Carbimazole

Hi all,

Take Carbimazole tablets for my thyroid along with other tablets for fast heart rate in morning, is morning the best time to take Carbinazole or would evening be best. thanks

When on the initial high dosing of carbimazole, it is often recommended to split dose - taking around half in the morning and half in the evening. Carbimazole has a relatively short life in the body and, if taken once a day, can allow the thyroid to restart making thyroid hormone when there are 24 hours between doses.

However, once the dose has been reduced (assuming it has), then it probably makes little difference. I'd expect your dose to have been adjusted to achieve an effect. Changing time at which you take it might not be the best idea. On block and replace, I really do not know.

I always took my carbimazole (40mcg a day) at once in the morning, an hour / hour and a half after I took my levothyroxine - I used to leave that by the bed and reach out for it as soon as I woke up - usually about 0600. I took my carb along with lisinopril for high blood pressure and tildiem that I got for a racing heartbeat.

I would have preferred to take my carb at night but it just didn’t work out for me, can’t remember exactly why but I felt better taking it in the morning.. I also took it all at once because I didn’t realise I was supposed to take it intwo separate lots! Fortunately I survived all of that.
