carbimazole

I live in Australia. I am aged 66. I was diagnosed about 3 years ago, with an overactive thyroid. I was told that my reading should be between 10 and 20 and when I had my first blood test it was 79. I had been taking mollecular iodine drops for a period of 3 years or so, as I was told I was deficient and apparently this is what caused it. I stopped those immediately and was put on the 5mg carbimazole. 3 times a day. I had an ultrasound and was found to have a nodule on one side. I took the tablets for two and a half months and after having regular blood tests the readings came down and I was feeling a lot better so after about a month and a half I dropped them back to twice a day and the next time I went to my doctor my reading was slightly under, so was told to stop taking the pills altogether and I have been fine ever since. I have had a blood test about twice a year and everything has been Ok. I eat a few basil leaves most days and make basil tea which is very good for your thyroid. Hope this helps.

I have heard of this gg but I haven't tried it myself. I have taken turmeric tablets to try and lower inflammation but it did not work for me.

So, what have you heard? In what way is it supposed to be good? What is it supposed to do?

Here is a link

I have tried herbs to try to get well ... nothing worked.

No, I wouldn't expect it to. And, that article isn't very convincing. If these herbs are used on a daily basis all through life, then they might have some effect on the endocrine system. But, by the time we know we have problems, it's usually much too late for the type of help they can give.

Thank you for the link.

Sometimes when people are desperate to feel well they will try alternative treatments. I was on a site in the US and was always being sent links to sites that some of the members were using to try to get well. I don't really get on with herbs and did once try Nytol which made my sleep pattern worse so I now avoid herbal remedies.

I am very glad you have recovered.

Did you ever have an iodine test? Which sort? And have you got the results?

This is for general interest, I'm afraid, to try to understand a little more of what happened.
