Hi, my TSH is above normal range at 5.02mu/L can anyone give me any clarity regarding how how this is ??

I’m constantly tired and suffer from eye pain and headaches, we believe I have Hashimoto’s and I’m now having blood tests for thyroid antibodies.

Carlo1984,

Have you been prescribed Levothyroxine?

Yes, my TSH WAS 5.02 as mentioned but my T4 was within normal range at 12.4...

Carlo1984,

The goal of Levothyroxine is to restore the patient to euthyroid status. For most patients that will be when TSH is 0.2 - 1.0 with FT4 in the upper range. FT4 needs to be in the upper range in order that sufficient T3 is converted. Read Treatment Options in thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_...

Hypothyroid patients often have low or deficient ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate so ask your GP to check in case you need supplements.

Thanks for you input it’s much appreciated, my worry is that I had something more sinister, I’ve shown all the symptoms for Hashimoto’s I just hope I get the best result from my ultrasound on Thursday, I want to be sure there are no tumours.

Carlo1984,

Ultrasound scan will show the size and condition of your thyroid gland. Most adults will have one or two thyroid nodules. 95% of nodules are benign.

Thyroid cancer is asymptomatic so the symptoms you are experiencing are due to low thyroid hormone and/or due to Hashimoto's. How long have you been taking Levothyroxine?

Please refer to my reply on your previous post earlier yesterday - when I explained most of us are sufferers and sharing experiences and knowledge :-) If you click onto people's names in their Replies you can read their Bio's and will see if they are Medics or not. Have you done yours ?
