I did a post a few minutes ago. My name is Vicki and I live in Australia.

Just wanted to know if anyone that has had a thyroid nodule, whether herbal remedies such as lemon balm tea and basil or Nat mur have reduced same and how long has it taken? Have they still taken carbimazole at the same time?

Hi Vicki, yes it’s very common for the general population to have at least one thyroid nodule (up to 70% of population) I have two, sometimes nodules can cause some tightness in the lower throat and potential non serious issues such as a clicking larynx on swallowing. You may wish to have an ultrasound scan if you haven’t already done so. If you do then use a consultant radiologist and not a general ultrasound practioner.

I have had some good success with alleviating symptoms by using the following items that you can buy from most health stores. These help reduce inflammation and support the thyroid.

Selenium, Curcumin, B12, zinc, magnesium spray, garlic with allicin.

Selenium is very important due to a lack of it in soil, especially in Europe, not sure about Oz.

There is also a large study in Denmark that concluded that an alcoholic drink or two per week has a protective effect on the thyroid.

Cutting down on stress also helps, although that’s can be difficult in today’s modern world.

Other than that there appears to be some evidence that mild issues with neck vertebrae can have a detrimental effect on your thyroid. Yoga and correct posture can assist.

Good luck

thank you. My GP arranged for an ultrasound, which showed the nodule on the right lobe. Now I have to go for a nuclear scan this week. I have looked it up on google, to see whether it is "hot" or "cold". I don't want to go under the knife that is why I was enquiring about other remedies. Are you taking carbimazole? as well are the above? I have read about selenium (available in brazil nuts apparently) and also lack of Vit D. I am on 5 mg three times a day.

Hi, I’m not taking Carbimazole, my TSH is 3.5 at the moment so higher than it should ideally be but all other thyroid test results seem normal. Brazil nuts contain selenium but differing amounts of it. I would recommend a simple health supplement tablet containing Selenomethionine 200ug (one tablet per day) available in most health stores. Vit D is best taken in spray form (same as Magnesium) both available in health stores.

I don’t think you need to worry about going under the knife, and there are other non surgical options too. Laser ablation, alcohol ablation and more recently Echotherapie which uses u/s waves to destroy thyroid nodule tissue if it gets too big.

But...... one step at a time, and don’t worry

thanks for replying. It will be interesting to see what the nuclear scan shows. Its early stages for me, but I am looking at natural alternatives to carbimazole. I haven't had any real side effects from that and it does seem to have helped. My T4 reading is in the normal range - now 14 (between 10 and 20).
