My Robin: Just wanted to share a piccy of this... - Thyroid UK
My Robin
Aw, I love robins There is a very friendly robin couple who frequent my allotment - they'll come and grab worms whilst I'm digging, no more than an inch from the spade!
That makes me sound so energetic... I've not had the energy to go down there since September
Lovely isnt it, never really took alot of notice of nature before i became poory and now im also off work. Wonderful.x
Too many take no notice or rather do not notice and many of our songbirds are vanishing. Is that noticed ? Only by those who noticed 30 plus years ago.
Makes sense treepie, things like that used to pass me by but now it is lovely.๐
I have a pair of very shy bullfinches on the feeders every day.Sometimes three turn up.Really colourful and great to see.
Sounds lovely treepie, nature is wonderful.xx
Certainly is .In some car parks and reserves robins have got so used to hand outs they will take food from the hand.
Mind you ,they are often aggressive to the competition and have been known to fight to the death.
just gorgeous michelle I have three, one out the front and two out the back I put down robin food for them they are so pretty.
I have a tame robin I've called Bob, he waits for me in the duck pen every morning and evening when i go out to feed the ducks and chickens and if I'm moving the muck heap or digging he's there at my feet looking for bugs, just hope the cats don't get him !
We've a pair of robins feeding together in the back garden at the moment...special friends!
Today we also have some visitors from the river, a moorhen and a pair of mallards. Natural sources of food are so scarce in late winter, but we do our best to help.
Sounds lovely i dont have anything like that here as we live near a small town and quite built up though. I agree we have to do our bit for nature.๐
We only get waterfowl coming up to the garden when conditions are poor for them. They're so shy, even the mallards.
Just saw the comment below about mealworms... We sometimes visit a garden centre in Hexham that sells huge bags of dried mealworms. Have you got a garden place near you? As long as you put out a dish of water, the robin and other birds will be fine with the dried version.
Rmichelle ~ he's lovely! I get a lot of pleasure from my garden birds ~ I love them ๐. I also live in town, and only have medium sized front and back gardens, but I have all sorts of garden birds as I put out a range of different feeders and spread them around the trees and fences, to attract as many types as possible. You will get the same ~ you'll be amazed ~ they will come! Go onto RSPB site, loads of info on there.
Birds and all wildlife is in such decline now ~ loss of habitat, pesticides, etc., so they all need our help more than ever and it's very rewarding. I'm pretty sure some of my newer neighbours think I'm a bit crazy though, as I'm a bit obsessive about it ~ one hasn't really spoken to me since she saw me and my daughter reviving an exhausted pipistrelle bat ~ the little bat recovered, but the neighbour didn't lol! ๐. Little Robbie will so appreciate the mealworms, and lots of others too, but remember to soak them in warm water for 15 minutes to rehydrate and soften them in spring and early summer when they are feeding their babies๐
Looking forward to more lovely pics ~ no pressure lol! xXx.
Thankyou mamapea1 loved the moment about the bat and rhe neighbour but who cares what they think.๐
Funny you should mention about having feeders around your garden as i mentioned to hubby last night i want things to hang around the garden for the birds to feed from so tomorrow we are going to garden centre to buy some little bits-ooh i feel just like Bill Odie now!!
Our Garden is smaller at the front and like yours a medium sized lawn at the back, it will be nice to see different types of birds-yes feel excited about my new found hobby.๐๐ ha when i do get my camera out and send pics everyone will be thinking "that crazy bird woman is off again" ๐จxx
Oh I'm so glad you're going to do it Rmichelle ~ and just at the right time, with a nasty cold spell on the horizon.... ๐. You will save little lives! ๐. The little birds (and wood mice ~ I told you I was obsessed) have saved my life at times, when I have been feeling really ill with no interest in life and on the verge of giving up, I have had to force myself into the garden to fill up the feeders and once out there, have felt so uplifted by all the goings on ~ a little wren and a wood mouse feeding together and running round the place like best mates, others lining up for their turn to have fun in the bath etc.
One spring I went out there and the apple tree I was sitting under suddenly became full of fluffy, freshly hatched baby birds, pecking at the branches. ๐ it may have been my imagination, but I swear my pain lessened as I sat there! ๐
Oh no, I couldn't care less what she thinks of me anyway, we clearly have nothing in common, and I prefer my animal friends anyway!
That's another thing I love about this forum, so many animal lovers!
Hope you enjoy your new hobby ~ you will become a fully fledged member of the crazy bird woman club ~ good for you! ๐ฅ can't wait to hear of your progress, and to see who turns up in your garden. ๐
You've really cheered me up Rmichelle ~ good luck ๐ xXx.
Oh so glad i cheered you up mamapea and thankyou for sharing with me your experiences๐ฒ of nature, sometimes it is the little things in life that give us so much pleasure, i am quute excited about all these birds in my garden and i will send you piccy when im out twitching in my little garden, ๐ค and spring is on its way soon and its my favourite time of year.๐ฐ๐๐ฃ.xx
Lovely photo, Rmichelle. Don't look like a worm murderer does he? I was shocked when I found out how agressive and territorial robins are.
How lovely! I bought a window feeder to stick on the outside of the window in my back room and a robin often visits that when I'm in the room. I fill it with mealworms and they go very quickly.
