Flu like symptoms every morning

Does anybody else experience flu like symptoms every morning usually before food and sometimes after it feels like an attack of some sort?! Eyes go heavy and sore, head feels sore and disoriented slightly and feels like a massive head cold but no actual cold present?

I am determined to get to the bottom of this feeling. I have Hashimotos and Underactive Thyroid also I am gluten free and dairy free occasionally but not often have the odd slip up with gluten or dairy but I am usually fairly good. Any advice? I see my endo today but it's always rushed and I don't have time to tell her how I really feel?

On sitting down before the Endo, immediately say "I feel terrible and really hope you can resolve the awful symptoms I have".

I will but she will be more interested in how I am doing on the trial of a combo of t4/t3 however I have had this heavy flu like head sensation well before starting this trial so it's not related. Any ideas of the cause? It makes working during the mornings extremely difficult and feels like an awful sort of attack 😰

This is an excerpt and it appears not to be an unusual symptoms:-

On the following link, it suggests you might be intolerant to fillers/binders in levo.

Oh I’m so glad someone else has posted this!

I’ve noticed myself il tend to have a fever, runny nose, heavy feeling in head and generally feel like I’ve come down with a cold but as soon as I’ve eaten I’m fine.

I think it’s more of our bodies feeling really run down in the morning until we’ve eaten - especially if we’ve had our thyroxine doses and are awaiting the hour after.

But I do feel my immune system is in overdrive on most days so it could be a flare up

Mistygrey,

It's a Hashi symptom. healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

It could well be but why does it happen every morning before and after food? Usually mornings only. I'd have thought if it was hashi it would be persistent at anytime?

With Hashimotos you can have low acid which affects digestion.

Mistygrey,

Maybe to do with low blood sugar too. Many conditions have symptoms which are worse in the morning or at night and aren't persistent throughout the day.

I'm convinced it's a blood sugar issue. I always describe the feeling to people as a hangover without having had the pleasure of the booze the night before! I'm really well now and have been for around a year but sometimes, (I've just started making a note of when it happens to see if there's a link with my periods) I still get it and it generally takes until after lunch before I feel better. I seem to crave carbs and get thirsty (just like being hungover).

Hi Nat

That sounds exactly like what I have and does also feel like a bad hangover.

My Endo isn't convinced it is sugar related as I have taken glucose reading by finger pricking myself with my kit at the times I am symptomatic.

What did you do to feel better and stop these flu like attacks? I can't handle them at work it's making me really really ill :( and very hard to concentrate on anything else when they happen!

I get them less often now I am at what I consider to be my optimal dose but I'm afraid I can't offer advice how to prevent them as i just don't know :-( I do sympathise, I just feel like all I want to do is crawl back in bed but what I usually do is eat and drink lots!
