I have been treated for hypothyroidism for a number of years, but do not understand test results or the terminology used. Where can I find information? For instance, I would like to understand just what T4 and T3 are!

Confused by Terminology
You could start with ThyroidUK's main website, lots of info on there. This is ThyroidUK's forum.
Start here and work down the purple menu on the left hand side. You can always come back and ask questions, members always happy to help
Some of the terms and words are tongue-twisters to say the least, no wonder they are abbreviated!
SeasideSusie's link to the parent site for here is a great place to start.
Katz,
helvella 's list of abbreviations and acronyms will help you. healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...
Thanks
A good general introduction I found in a library is the UK edition of "Thyroid for Dummies" .A bit out of date but covers the ground well.
Thanks, I will look for a copy of 'Thyroid for Dummies'- It's all a bit of a mystery to me.
Always ask for a printout of any results and post them on here with the ranges. The rangesare important as they differ from lab to lab so without them we would just be guessing. I always think you get the idea when discussing your own results and we can help with that and hopefully as we see your results getting better then you shall be feeling better as well.
Another important thing to realise is that things in the Thyroid world move slowly and we can't alter that, trying often means going back to the beginning and starting again but we can help you and explain as we go along.
In the UK we are entitled to our results but we may be asked for a small contribution to paper and ink but I've never paid the NHS for results. If there is a problem ask if you can take a photo of them on your phone or write them down. But as SeasideSusie says lots of info on the site so shout out if anything you don't understand. Nothing is too trivial as remember we have all been where you are now and understand how you are feeling.
