No, it won't replace thyroxine. Some people (myself included) can find that it helps or, in my case, it eventually stopped working.

Are you not getting on with thyroxine then?

Thanks for replying , yes I have been on thyroxine going from 50mg 100mg down again then up tp 150mg, currently on 100mg but have no energy, hot/cold aches & pains in my legs.....ok Im 76, so doc smiles and says well .....your body is aging...DAH !! well thanks for that I never realized.....age or not, my old body isn't happy and neither am I.

Not happy to self experiment as I don't know if I need more or less thyroxine.

This is the problem with all products made from animal thyroids other than the prescription-quality ones such as Nature-Throid, Westhroid P, Erfa and NP. The companies will never unambiguously state how much hormone is present. Some effectively say that their products contain no hormones but never actually explain how that could be - they usually also say that they are made from thyroid, de-fatted, and dried with nothing else done to them. So where does the hormone content disappear to?

As far as I am concerned, it is a deeply unsatisfactory state of affairs.

If they contain any thyroid hormones, tell us how much and make sure it is consistent. (If they don't say how much, they could be very inconsistent and we would not know.) If they do not contain any thyroid hormones, tell us how that can be. In both cases produce some form of independent analysis/assay that will explain it all to us.

In fact I positively invite any sellers/manufacturers of these products to explain - either directly here or by contacting Thyroid UK. (Please don't make anything you post an advertisement. A simple statement is what we need.)

Armour thyroid declare the content

Here's the figures

"Armour® Thyroid (thyroid tablets, USP) for oral use is a natural preparation derived from porcine thyroid glands and has a strong, characteristic odor. (T3 liothyronine is approximately four times as potent as T4 levothyroxine on a microgram for microgram basis.) They provide 38 mcg levothyroxine (T4) and 9 mcg liothyronine (T3) per grain of thyroid. "

Its a blend of vitamins and minerals to support your thyroid, you can check on the website, it states there are NO thyroid hormones in it.

May be an idea to start a new thread and post up any recent test results if you have any? Your GP sounds as useless as most of them!

My doctor is a fine and understanding lady, but like so many others not as clued up on thyroid probs as she might be....I would never describe her as useless....

Hi Sam75, you can not buy NDT in this Country, you have to buy it from abroad. So yes you have wasted your money.

Not quite true - you can buy some prescription-quality desiccated thyroid products if you have a prescription (private or NHS).

I think you are missing the point, the Lady did not have a prescription, she thought she could just buy it from Amazon. And that's the question I answered. We are all well aware you can get it with prescription, that was not the question.
