I have been eating walkers cheese and onion crisps for the past while being gluten free. I didn't realise that these may contain gluten. I haven't been experiencing any symptoms, does this mean that it's OK for me? That I don't need to be so careful with food that's made in a fabric that handles gluten?

Clara9,
Why did you go gluten-free?
Because I have hashimotos. And when I did my bloating and stomach pain went away.
Clara9,
Re Hashimoto's, you will need to be 100% G-F if you are hoping for a reduction in antibodies.
If Walkers did contain gluten it seems reasonable to assume you might have experienced bloating and stomach ache.
At the moment, Walkers cannot guarantee that any of their crisps are suitable for people following a gluten-free diet. The new law on gluten-free labelling means a strict criteria has to be met if manufacturers want to indicate the suitability of their foods for people with coeliac disease.
As someone who has been 100% gluten free for over three years I wouldn’t bother with anything that says it ‘might contain gluten’. I’m sure there must be s9ething out there that is totally gluten free that tastes just as good.
Sure, I just wondered since I didn't experience any symptoms of its needed to be so careful. I don't plan to eat them and I didn't realise that they could contain gluten.
Aha, I see. I’ve noticed that you see a lot of stuff that says that on the label. I think that product doesn’t contain gluten but may have been in contact with gluten containing foods during the manufacturing process. If you aren’t coeliac you might not notice any symptoms I d9nt know that for sure as I’ve not got any medical qualifications.
Do you know about CoeliacUK? They produce a really good handbook listing whatfeels like every food / ingredient known to man. They also have a good website and a magazine. For me it wasworth joining for the handbook alone.
F&N,
Nothing tastes as good as Walkers cheese and onion crisps!
Ha, ha. I'm afraid I’m a sad plain crisps person. 😉
One can only dream. Drooling as I type.
Unless you pull it out of the ground yourself it's doubtful that it is completely gluten free.
Not to mention cook it yourself after you’ve pulled it out of the ground.
I’m hoping that as my thyroid antibodies have gone down every time I’ve tested them then I’m on the right track. Being confident that what you buy / eat really is gluten free is all a leap of faith really.
Gluten and soya is everywhere, manufacturers like to pop it in just to make it impossible for us!!! Driving me mad!!!
Tell me, I bought a snack sized tub of nuts from M&S - without checking the label - well it was just nuts.
Nope, fortunately I looked at the ingredients before I opened the pack and sure enough it contained wheat! Why on earth would you need to include wheat with nuts?
Pom pom bears are gf and they do cheese and onion, i scrutinise everything-walkers are a no no!!
