Adrenal insufficiency & low thyroid...

Hi I'm currently feeling quite overwhelmed with everything as have upped my levothyroxine to 50mcg after TSH was 4.1 (for God knows how long).

I have also been told I have adrenal insufficiency and going for further tests in hospital soon.

I thought I was doing he right thing in upping my levo dose and correcting my thyroid, optimising vitamins etc. However I have just read an article online that says increasing dose is the wrong thing to do if adrenals are struggling... Can someone advise me please? Feeling quite overwhelmed with everything. I just want to get well without prolonging the agony or making myself worse.

Any tips gratefully received.

Dee8686,

Was the author of the article you read qualified to comment on thyroid and adrenal treatment? The late Dr. Skinner thought that optimising thyroid levels could help adrenals so increasing dose probably was the right thing.

Thank you Clutter for your reassurance. The article is above which I came across amid my research. Just feel so confused!

Dee8686,

Adrenal insufficiency is a medically recognised condition but adrenal fatigue isn't.

Medical practitioners do have different approaches. Dr. Peatfield tends towards treating adrenals for a couple of weeks before starting thyroid treatment whereas the late Dr. Skinner thought that improving thyroid levels would also improve adrenal function.

Clutter,

From my own personal experience I can tell you that I don't know what came first chicken or the egg ? I was dosing on T4 ONLY for many years after my TT . Years later trying to dose with synthetic T3 /NDT I started to have terrible pain in my lower back . When I stopped the T3 my pain would calm down . Addressing the problem with high doses of vitamin "C" , B-5 , Celtic Sea Salt , DHEA and going off all sugar trying to keep stress at bay as much as possible and going to sleep early when possible helped me . It's a long road to recovery but persistence was the key to recovery .
