Need help trying to resolve a few symptoms

Hello all I was wonder if people could offer advice and their experiences around the following?

Firstly I have what seems to be carpel tunnel in my hands and arms but it is not constant and only comes on at night and if I use my hands in a position for more than a minute eg texting on a phone or cleaning a table.

I also have pain in my hip flexor and gluteal muscle on the right most of the time. It’s like it is spasming and it stops me sleeping. Does anyone else suffer with tightness in muscles like this?

Both of these problems have gotten worse in the last 6 months?

I have recently upped my T4 medication from 125 mg per day to 150 mg alternate days as I felt like my body was struggling and I felt quite unwell on top of these symptoms. Set to have my bloods done in a month or so. My doc said she may trial me on some T3. Does T3 generally help? Sorry about all the questions!!

Thanks Rhiannon

Low vitamins are very common when hypo.

Low vitamin D can cause bone and joint pain

Do you have high thyroid antibodies? Ever been tested, if not request they are. High antibodies confirms cause of hypothyroid as autoimmune thyroid disease also called Hashimoto's

Low vitamins are especially common with Hashimoto's

Low vitamin D and low magnesium are often found together

Essential to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12. Always get actual results and ranges.

Post results when you have them, members can advise

Hashimoto's affects the gut and leads to low stomach acid and then low vitamin levels

Low vitamin levels affect Thyroid hormone working

Poor gut function can lead leaky gut (literally holes in gut wall) this can cause food intolerances. Most common by far is gluten

According to Izabella Wentz the Thyroid Pharmacist approx 5% with Hashimoto's are coeliac, but over 80% find gluten free diet helps significantly.

Either due to direct gluten intolerance (no test available) or due to leaky gut and gluten causing molecular mimicry (see Amy Myers link)

But don't be surprised that GP or endo never mention gut, gluten or low vitamins. Hashimoto's gut connection is very poorly understood

Changing to a strictly gluten free diet may help reduce symptoms, help gut heal and slowly lower TPO antibodies

Ideally ask GP for coeliac blood test first and perhaps they could retest thyroid antibodies

I do need to get bloods done. How soon after a levothyroxine dose change can you do bloods?

It is best to get to the core of the matter as they advise above but as medicine adjustments may take time: In the interim I find wearing a "wrist support" on both wrists while sleeping preventative of my carpel tunnel symptoms. I had tried several over the counter ones without success until I was fitted with a decent brand in a sports medicine clinic.

I came limping into a breast doctor for a yearly exam & mentioned I have a right hip problem (after doing some moving last fall). Without examining it he told me he was sure it was actually a lower back problem as he sees this quite a bit in his practice. I said nothing but found this hard to believe. Sure enough when all the right hip/muscle aches & pain subsided I could then feel the residue ache from my lower back. I had a MRI of the lower back earlier in the year by the way for right toe pain (& conduction test too. Toe pain came about from driving distances). So yes, I am no stranger to some of your symptoms.

Addition: I've been asked to get a Bone Mineral Density (BMD) test now.

The thing about magnesium deficiency looks really interesting! I definitely have the twitches and spasms in my muscles thing. Do you know a good dosage? Do NHS docs test this if you ask? Never asked before!
