Low thyroid and antidepressant withdrawal

Hi- sorry posting again with another question, but I'm finding everyone so wonderfully helpful!

I just have another question that I don't know will have anything related to my thyroid... But it just might.

I posted yesterday about my low thyroid,

However my symptoms have definitely worsened since I've withdrawn from my antidepressant... 8 weeks off now and did this withdrawal very slowly & correctly over a year.

I just wondered, since my symptoms seem to have worsened since stopping th AD whether or not anyone has found this too? It's quite bizarre and not sure if it's just a coincidence.

Just thought I'd ask.. My doctor didn't think so but (!)

Second question is, when I think of when I first started getting unwell, I was 9 months post pregnancy.... My levo was increased during pregnancy then I was put back to low dose after I had my daughter... I'm now wondering if child birth worsened my thyroid and it went undetected all this time? Just a thought.

Thank you to everyone who has commented on my posts and has helped me so far piece together information that I can use to improve my health. Xx

Dee8686,

What symptoms have got worse since stopping antidepressants?

The only way to tell whether child birth made your thyroid worse is to compare your thyroid results before, during and after pregnancy. If you are taking more Levothyroxine now than before your pregnancy then thyroid has gotten worse.

Fatigue... Lack of energy. I know these can be discontinuation symptoms but I don't think they are this far down the line. Thank you for tour reply. I will post results again when I get them next week x

Dee8686,

Withdrawal symptoms can go on for a lot longer than 8 weeks. Won't hurt to check thyroid levels, ferritin, vitD, B12 and folate to rule out low levels causing fatigue though.

Well done for getting off the anti-d's, it might take a while to get back to full health since even with slow withdrawal it's an adjustment. Have you checked all your vitamin levels? You could take vitamin C 1000mg a day. It may help to support adrenal function and your body will excrete what you don't use.

I used to try all the time to get off AD's whilst I was undiagnosed for UAT

Even the slow method

Since increasing to 100mcg I was able to just stop after 1 week at half dose 100mg Sertraline and the results are amazing, 4 weeks tomorrow.

That's great when we at last find a dose which relieves our symptoms and there is some light ahead.

In what way are tour results amazing @J1972? What symptoms did you have before that disappeared?

Depression, Anxiety, apparently C4 C5 trapped nerve - pain horrific, fatigue - even at the wheel frightening, insomnia, unable to face anyone or anything, total lack of motivation in everything and no interest in anything or anyone, dry skin, lesions on head from nerve damage, nails so hard you can't cut them, skin on feet deteriorating, spots, cold sweats, extremely sensitive to the cold. Unable to gain weight, anosmia - total loss of smell and partial taste with changes to tongue - swollen & blisters & going brown. Constipated for 6 days, eyebrows falling out
