Hi as titles suggests can someone point me in the right direction on here who to contact with seeing recommendations for food endo’s in my area? My GP has done a referral but he actually adviced me if possible to self fund an appointment as he no longer has a clue how to treat me.

For a list of thyroid friendly endos, email Dionne at tukadmin@thyroiduk.org then ask for feedback from members for any you can get to. Replies will have to be by private message as no names are allowed on the forum.

Niklew,

Why hasn't your GP referred you to a NHS endocrinologist?

He called me yesterday to say he has done a referral but he actually said if you can self fund I would as the wait is so long. I’ve contacted the hospital where the referral has gone and they have said 4 months. The GP has taken me off meds as he doesn’t think my thyroid needs treating and doesn’t understand enough about adrenal glands. They are at a loss to my symptoms. I’m just starting to really worry now that they don’t know what’s wrong and I don’t know what else to test. My GP doesn’t think there’s anything else we can test ...

It maybe a idea if you could send in your blood work with ranges and let the forum advice you

If you dont have them you are entitled to ask for copies.😊

I’ve posted my results before and everyone was really helpful and seemed to think I needed to up my levo but I’ve seen two GP’s who said no and I need to come off them..

I went to the GP in Nov’16 about feeling faint, fatigue etc but those bloods came back ‘normal’. 6 months later I starting loosing hair which became increasingly worse by the sept and also starting loosing allot of weight.

They done bloods and said I was hypo:

T4: 12.5 (11-25)

Tsh: 4.83 (0.27- 4.2)

Started on 50mg levo.

Went back 6 weeks later for bloods:

T4 14.9 (11-25)

Tsh 0.81 (0.27-4.2)

The GP said as my symptoms were worsening ( now loosing balls of hair daily) so come off the levo and start anti- depressants.

I didn’t start the anti- dep and paid for bloods through bluehorizon. These just after the latest test with GP. End of January

Tsh 1.53 ( 0.27-4.2)

T4 total 79.4 (66-181)

Free T4 15.5 ( 12-22)

Free T3 4.47 (3.1-6.8)

Anti- thyroidperoxidase abs 11-1 ( <34)

Anti- thyroglobulin abs <10 (< 115)

Ferritin 101 ( 13-150)

Vitamin b12 944 ( marked as high)

Serum folate 45.10 ( 8.83-60.8)

Going by reading through this forum I would think I need an increase of levo but I’ve been off it for 2 weeks now as GP refused and the second one said he wouldn’t have treated a TSh of under 10 to begin with.

I tested cortisol through the 4 saliva tests which showed I was low and morning and lunchtime and just about in range for 4 pm and in range for bed. So the GP done a cortisol 9 am blood which came back as normal:

265 ( 131- 550)

So my Gp has referred me to an endo on the basis of my saliva cortisol to ask the endo what do they think as my 9 am blood was in range.

Have just seen this and am no expert but can’t believe they’ve taken you off levo or said your cortisol is ok. Are you able to see a different GP whilst you wait to see the endo?

Hi!! I’ve booked to see a private endo- I don’t think the GP’s in my surgery ( seen 3) know enough about thyroid or adrenals- I feel sorry for people who just accept their word and not look into it. It’s awful.. can’t trust your own doctors!
