Missed natural thyroid today .

Hi there

I think I forgot to take my WP Thyroid today - I will know when I’ve counted the pills in an hour or so.

If I have missed one ( on 2 grains) what is considered the best course of action and what difference will it make to my health?

Thanks

I'd think you may notice a slight drop in energy from missing the T3, but you'll still have the slower converting T4 component from your last few week's THs swishing around your body & converting to T3. Hopefully no long term harm done if you've only missed half your dose & can take the rest when you've done your pill count.

I started using a pill docket box after a few forgetful blips to make sure I don't forget again.

I have to take mine 3 times a day - easy to remember breakfast one - but I have to have reminder for 1pm & 6pm on my phone ! The trouble I have is taking on empty stomach ? Those are meal times ! Anyone ? It’s nature throid 1 grain

Once in the morning doesn't work for you?

I take mine as early as possible, & have restrictive eating times most days (starting late & stopping early) that seem to fit in well with taking other supplements & THs. Vitamin D with brunch, iron with fruit in the afternoon, HRT in the evening, & magnesium at bedtime, so there's no clashes.

1 gr on Naturethroid is so small, why would you want to split the dose? The following is by a Doctor who was an Adviser to Thyroiduk.org. He would never prescribe T4 but NDT or T3 only. All of the answers in the link are imformative but January 30, 2002 will be of interest to you.

I agree, Shaws. I now take 3 doses, but I am having a rather massive total of 7 grains. I got away with one dose only in the morning until I was on about 4 grains.

At that point I really noticed a difference between my energy levels at morning and night. In the evening I was always stuck in bed, feeling rotten.Whereas my mornings were quite good. So I initially split my dose and had one in the afternoon. The effect was magical! I felt an improvement all day, including the mornings. At least as much as a dose increase.

The third dose is a bit more speculative. Sometimes I think it's better, other times not. I certainly had better sleep when I started with it, but it might have been a temporary blip. I have fiddled with this a lot over the past months to see where it helps me the most.

A very long winded answer just to give Avidreader an example of how it worked for me. If you haven't had a thorough experiment you might as well try a single dose in the morning and see if you lose anything.

The advice from one of our Advisers (now deceased) when introducing NDT is to take a dose equivalent to what we were on levo and every two weeks thereafter add 1/4 tablet always taking temp/pulse until you had relief of clinical symptoms. If your pulse/temp went too high you reduced back to previous dose.

I have the same problem, 3 doses a day, 3 times a 3 hour gap in meals!

I prioritise the meds over the meals. I tend to have breakfast, a large meal at about 4 or 5pm, and a little snack late in the evening.

But that's because of how it jiggles out for me. At times when I get up early I manage to squeeze a lunch and dinner in, both the same gap before I start fasting for my evening dose.

Although I also keep changing the time of the last dose. At one point I was having it very late to help me sleep. But then I was alert around the time I wanted to go to bed, so pushed it earlier and earlier. Now I've jiggled all the sizes around, so I take a larger dose in the morning, and a tiny one at night. Trying to make sure I'm at my most energetic in the daytime, and least energetic in the evening :p Occasionally I will just notice that I've been at my most tired and achy, or most energetic and comfortable, at a particular time, and then try to even it out.

I admire you 👏it’s not easy - the early morning one is - but I must get more discipline!

I take morning one at 8

Then a green collagen smoothie at about 9

Lunch 12 ish

Nature throid 1 -15

The evening one 6 so I have a late pm snack around 4 ish !

I stick to autoimmune diet as much as poss & gluten free , dairy free grain free 😩 I’d kill for a bacon sandwich & some blue cheese !

Hehe, the timings are easier than giving ukip cheese, I think ;)

If I mess mine up I roll the dice about whether I will feel really grotty by evening, so the fear keeps me disciplined :p

Katoir,

Why don't you take it now?

Katoir profile image

Yes I was wondering whether to take now or simply skip altogether. I wasn’t sure if taking it so late would mean having too much by the time I took my morning dose.

All ok - thank you for being there

None of these replies except Clutter’s are relevant to my post ??????

That’s strange .

Sorry Katoir, sometimes people get derailed :( Badhare has given you some advice, too.

If I was in this situation I would probably take Clutter's advice and take the dose anyway. The T4 component won't matter, as it is long term storage. The T3 gets used up more quickly. It's possible I could stop you sleeping, or give you a lot of energy so you don't want to sleep. If you're worried about that, you could take half the tablet, or take it closer to food than you otherwise would - this will stop it all from getting absorbed.

There is no real harm either way. If you don't take the next one, you may feel a tiny bit more tired tomorrow. If you do take it late in the evening (when you usually take in the morning), you may feel a tiny energy boost the next day. More likely you'll feely nothing at all either way.

I also agree with Badhare that its good to set up a system to help you remember, and also so you'll know for sure straight away if you've missed a dose. Dosette boxes are a good way to do it. What I do is prepare my dose the night before, and put it in a dish by my bed. This also helps me remember when I've taken my night time medicine, as I ALWAYS put my thyroid hormone out immediately after taking my other pills. Before I started doing this I would be putting my pyjamas on not remembering if I'd taken them two minutes before!
