T4 level too high..

My recent Medichecks bloods show the following:

FT4 21.2 (12 - 22)

FT3 4.92 (3.10-6.8)

TT4 142 (59.0-154)

TSH 0.91 (0.27-4.2)

I know from how I feel and previous tests that this T4 level is way too high for me (and the T3 could be a little higher..) I am on T4 only.

Is the best way to bring down the T4 level to stop it completely for a day or two, or reduce more slowly (and there keep feeling awful for longer)

Any advice or comments please ? I hav Hashis but a/b reducing on GF diet

Daffers,

You aren't biochemically overmedicated but if you feel overmedicated skip 2-3 doses to let the higher T4 wash out and then resume taking Levothyroxine at a lower dose. Reducing dose will make FT4 and FT3 drop.

thanks Clutter. so does that mean what is already in the cell's is OK but there's other stuff that can't get in cos they'e already full ? in simple terms ?

Daffers123,

No. It just means you feel overmedicated when FT4 is high in range.

Have you had a change of levo brand? Have you had tests for antibodies?

No no change of brand but maybe should check for yellow carding. Am taking wockhardt for past 5 years. And I do have Hashis, although my anti bodies (TPO) were on the way down since I gave up gluten in Nov/Dec. Will certainly check out if anyone else has noticed a dodgy batch of thyroxine. Thanks

Have you had your Vit D, B12, folate and ferritin tested recently? If yes please post, if not please get tested. There is a little imbalance between FT4 and FT3 which could be better so worth looking into the 4 things that help the Thyroid work better and see if they are optimal. If not then addressing that could help to bring your FT4 down slightly and increase your FT3 a little. Lowering your FT4 will also lower your FT3 if you change your medication so I would consider the alternative as well if the vits etc show room for improvement.

Thank you SF for your comments. Am awaiting results of ferritin etc. done last week so will post as soon as results come through. Its strange because I was tested in October and at tht time, my T3 was a higher ration to T4, so something seems to have caused an about-turn.

Troub le is, I feel very unwell when my T4 is this high. I am better in high-middle of range and hopefully will be able to add a little T3.

Sounds like low vitamins, can you add most recent results and ranges for vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

What supplements do you take?

Your results do not suggest over medicated. In fact FT3 is too low. It will drop further if you lower T4

As you have Hashimoto's, if vitamins are optimal you may need to consider adding small dose of T3

am awaiting results of vitamin tests but (usually) I am optimal. Am wondering if going gluten free a couple of months ago may have altered my levels. For example, Im not getting the fortification in ordinary bread. Take selenium, vit C, B12, B6, zinc, biotin, B complex ... Seeking Health Optimal Adrenal, Vit E, CBD Oil, on and on it goes.

I am waiting for ferritin and folate.

The results posted were for 8/1 and so I have been taking more levo than suits me for a little longer than they suggest.

I am seeing (supposed) private thyroid GP next Monday and hoping he will add a little T3. Trouble is, I have bad adrenal fatigue so not sure if I will be able to tolerate it.

thank for all advice/suggestions
