Should I try these Mercury Pharma tablets?

Doing fairly well on Wockhardt but have a packet of MP that are due to expire and wondering if I should try them - I could not tolerate Actavis so a bit cautious about trying a new kind but don't like to throw them out. Any advice appreciated.

I don't know how old they are but most levothyroxine was reformulated around 2013 because the MHRA brought in new regulations pertaining to the manufacture and production of levothyroxine. In any case, levothyroxine can lose some potency near to expiry date so probaby not a good idea.

Actavis was reformulated a few years ago too. If you want to try a different formulation then best to get a recent supply.

I have a few in my cupboard like that too. I wouldn't mess if feeling good on what I'm on to be honest as wouldn't want to rock the boat. I can't seem to throw them out though and keep them in my cupboard in case of absolute emergency - like an earthquake for instance. Not that we get earthquakes here and likely to lose potency by then but it would be better than nothing if can't get any for one reason or another - am always worrying about this lol. I'll blame the paranoia on my thyroid condition lol!! ;-)

Hi

There certainly is no danger taking tablets near their expiry date. They are made and labelled to be on the cautious side.

I used to take the mercury brand all the time- but with budget cuts and supply issues mine alter frequently and activas is less good and teva is like talc.

I much prefer the mercury brand but I understand if you feel stable now it can be daunting to alter.( I find it takes 5/6 days to settle down or know if the make is ok) For that reason I am switching to ndt.

Best wishes

I take Mercury pharma and get along very well with it but I would be loathed to try a different make.

Probably best to stick to what works.

I think different makes of levo are absorbed differently due to the fillers and binders and that can make a huge difference to some people.

Actually just to add, if you didn't get on with activis, you might not get on with Mercury pharma. I can not get with quite a few but am best with mercury pharma, activis is the only other one I can take if can't get MP and think the ingredients are similar? :-)
