Constipation: Hey guys i have posted another post... - Thyroid UK
Constipation
Magnesium. I use magnesium malate powder to allow fine dosage adjustment. Magnesium oxide is bad for you.
I know this is a late reply lol but for the possible benefit of others that may arrive at this thread from a search i will post the following that may be of benefit to someone.
I have suffered with chronic constipation for nearly 30 years . Last year I suffered a bout of severe impaction and cramps which required an Ambulance call I discovered a complete and immediate cure. Laxido !
My Doctor prescribed Laxido ( Galen). they are sugar free orange flavoured powder sachets that you mix with water . They act by reducing the amount of water extracted from the stools in the colon making them softer and easier to pass. I also needed to use suppositories for the first 3 days to dissolve the impaction.
Since that day I have rarely suffered with an instance of constipation except when I have forgotten to take my daily sachet of Laxido. I simply resume laxido and things are back to normal in 2 days.
I now frequently go to the toilet twice a day !....sometimes 3x times and I cannot describe what a blessing it is to not suffer any more with that horrible uncomfortable feeling of needing to go but being unable to.
Regarding your Mums cramps ,you might try Dioralyte available from any chemist. I occasionally get massive calf and thigh cramps on waking when I am particularly dehydrated and these salts stop the cramping the same day.
Diabetics are particularly prone to cramps as the body seeks to remove excess blood sugar by increasing the frequency of urination which in turn increases dehydration & constipation resulting in low potassium & sodium and cramps . its a vicious cycle which takes constant management.
Its not necessarily about the amount of fluids you drink either....its about the amount of water that the cells take up. You can drink lots of fluids yet if the cells do not take up sufficient water for whatever reason then you remain dehydrated. Some days the skin on my palms is shriveled up as though I had been in the shower for hours . No amount of drinking makes the slightest difference as it simply passes straight through with increased urination.
