Eye pressure

Hello again,

I am on carbimazole 5mg a day. My TSH was 0.09 (1-5) and is now 1.85. Endo is happy. However, I have this pressure behind my eyes. It started a while back but is now becoming troublesome. Not seeing the eye specialist for a month. I looked up Grave disease and it could match. Could I still have that if thyroid is stable. Thank you.

Yes, it is having Graves Disease which can cause thyroid eye disease (TED) not just having hyperthyroid levels. If you do have TED suppressing TSH <0.1 can be be beneficial. You could halve your 5mg Carbimazole dose and see whether that helps relieve the pressure.

Thanks for your reply. Is it not dangerous to alter the medication without professional advice? I’ve had my eyes checked today. All is fine. Could I lose my sight with Graves’ disease?

If all is fine with your eyes you don't have thyroid eye disease.

Well, my eyesight is fine and the glaucoma is fine too. But I still have that pressure. I wonder what it is?

Did you tell the eye specialist you are hyperthyroid and taking Carbimazole?

Yes I did but she was only an optician.

I’ll go back to my gp on Monday. I also had a laparoscopy with a general anesthésie this Monday and i’ve Read that can cause ey problems.
