Weight loss: Hi everyone. My name is Gayle and i... - Thyroid UK
Weight loss
What do you mean by a 'slimming aid'? If your weight gain is caused by being hypo, the only thing that is going to help is to optimise your thyroid hormone levels. Do you have a copy of your last lab results?
Hi.. yes all levels are fine. Had blood test last week.
In whose opinion? Why not post them in a new question and see if others agree that they're fine?
The gp.. had blood tests done at hospital and results were forwarded onto my gp.
Then you should ask your doctor for a print-out of your results. If you live in the UK, it is your legal right to have a copy. Never just take your doctor's word for you results being 'fine'. You need to know exactly what was tested, exactly what the results were, and keep your own records.
Given the fact that your can't lose weight, I very much doubt your results were 'fine'.
As greygoose said your thyroid levels need to be optimised, after which you should be able to lose weight. All be it slowly but it can be done I have managed to lose 5st post hypothyroid diagnosis. I just calorie count with the help of the my fitness pal app. Any diet plan that fits your lifestyle should work. I wouldn't meddle with any slimming aids there is no way of knowing how they would interact with your thyroid meds and most don't work anyways. Healthy eating at a small calorie deficit and a lot of patience is what you will need to do.
Once my blood yests started coming back as ok I joined slimming world. I have since lost 5.5stone!
Cut out grains, dairy, soy and sugar. Eat plenty of seasonal vegetables small amounts of fruit, meat and fish. Optimise you zinc, selenium, vitamin D and get you thyroid medication right. Don’t do excessive exercise, as it stresses your body, walking, yoga are both great. And get plenty of sleep and try to reduce your stress levels as best you can.
Getting the right mix of meds for you and the right dose is absolutely step one, true!! though, I know. Cutting out grains, dairy, soy and sugar is not so much to lose weight I don’t think (although it doesn’t leave you much to eat!! I know, I’m trying it now.) But that approach, combined with lots of bone broth (meat stocks, good soup) and homemade jelly (no sugar!) from 50:50 non-concentrate fruit juice and water... can go a long way to healing your gut, if that’s an issue for you. Then you start to absorb everything better, including your meds. Then... once the mix and dose is right, you feel better and you can lose weight. Don’t torture yourself with diets before then. I hate the extra 20 kilos I’ve put on with this illness, but recently I’ve got onto the right meds for me (not the right Amount though yet) and lo and behold, with a small amount of effort I’ve lost 4 kilos in a month. I never thought I was going to shift this load, but at last I am. It Will happen for you too. Just focus on all the above good advice First. When your meds are right, weight loss Is possible. Maintain hope and gentleness to yourself in the meantime.

Hi Gayle
I lost my excess weight after going gluten free (so nothing with flour in), only cooking with coconut oil & butter, eating fruit, veg (not cruciferous unless well cooked), bone broth, fresh orange juice, whole (raw) milk, yogurt, free range eggs, hard cheese (parmesan), good coffee, use Great Lakes Collagen powder in your coffee, sweet potatoes, ordinary potatoes, etc. Eat yogurt & fruit or cottage cheese & fruit mid morning & mid afternoon to keep your blood sugars up. I got a headache for the first couple of days obviously adjusting to the diet but as our friends mention above it works once you get your head round it.
Good luck. This is a good site for advice from fellow sufferers.
