What T3 were you taking? It may have been a problem with the T3 and not you.
I don't believe your doctor. I know of an Adviser to TUK, who took 150mcg of T3 daily. He died through an accident, not because of T3. He could only function as a scientist by taking T3 only.
Do you have a copy of your latest results with the ranges you can post for comments?
There are many on this forum who take T3 only.
Your daily dose of T3 used to be approx 250mcg of levo and it has now been replaced with a doses around 80mcg of thyroid hormones which is much lower. - about 2/3rds.
If doctor is going to adjust doses he has to replace it with the equivalent - not reduced.
If your pituitary had shut down, you'd be dead. It doesn't just produce TSH, it produces a lot of other essential hormones, as well. These doctors do say some stupid things!
I suppose what they mean is that your TSH is suppressed because you've been taking T3. Well, yes, that's normal. The pituitary has stopped producing TSH because you don't need it. The pituitary can sense there's a decent amount of T3 in you blood. It might not be quite enough, but there's no point in trying to raise your TSH, because your thyroid is unable to respond to it. That is why you are on thyroid hormone replacement. However, you probably need an increase in T3. 10 mcg is just a tiny dose. But, can't really say without seeing your labs.
Respectfully Hashimotosgirl , your doctor doesn’t appear to have a clue what he/she is talking about,
All that happened was that your TSH was suppressed on liothyronine. Which is completely and utterly normal and not at all unexpected. When you take T3, any amount of it, that’s nearly always what happens. When you take T3, the only blood test that shows anything worthwhile is FT3. If that wasn’t overrange, then your doctor acted completely irresponsibly in taking you off 60mcg liothyronine.
Your new dose is so much lower in potency than what you were taking, I’m not surprised you feel awful. Your TSH doesn’t need fixing. But you do need your liothyronine reinstated, most likely. When’s your appointment with the specialist? You need your case reviewing urgently.
I know when I came off T3 I had serious side effects I am waiting on a private appointment should only take a couple if weeks and yes I agree doctors here in Ireland are crap it was a specialist Margaret Griffith that told me this so sick of doctors and getting no answers
I then went to my go he put me on eltroxin and t3 I told him eltroxin never worked for me he never listened to me now I am waiting to see endo in mullingar did anyone attend him and is he any good My vitamin D was very low does this effect thyroid function
It sounds as if your doctor is playing a game of roulette with you. Experimenting to prove that you don't really need thyroid hormones at all - for six weeks - for goodness sake you couldn't dream that up if you tried.
We are dealing with uneducated doctors who have our good health in their hands and causing havoc instead.
