Lampers,

Aaargh! They've changed the link. It used to be wonderful with a chart detailing what each high or low evaluation meant.

I'm afraid you'll have to plough through these Google links google.co.uk/search?q=low+e...

"An abnormally low eosinophil count can be the result of intoxication from alcohol or excessive production of cortisol, like in Cushing’s disease. Low eosinophil counts may also be due to the time of day. Under normal conditions, eosinophil counts are lowest in the morning and highest in the evening.

Unless alcohol abuse or Cushing’s disease is suspected, low levels of eosinophils are not usually of concern unless other white cell counts are also abnormally low. If all white cells counts are low, this can signal a problem with the bone marrow."

Clutter's link tells you similar: "Numbers are normally low in the blood. One or an occasional low number is usually not medically significant."

Thanks for the posts guys. I took the test in the afternoon and I hadn't drank alcohol in the days before it but I do drink more than my share overall.

Both of my children have always had low eosinophils and the doctors have never been concerned as apparently the other white blood cells will increase to cover the fact they are low. If you google some lab ranges some state that even 0 is normal as you aren’t meant to have that many in your blood just depends on how many are floating about in the sample at that time. My daughter was tested for cushings and isn’t an alcoholic! Sometimes people fall slightly out of the range of what that lab give as “normal” Doctors are more concerned when eosinophils are raised.
