Hi all, I posted previously saying I was prescribed ~Omeprazole for reflux. Greygoose has suggested I might in fact have low stomach acid and I would welcome any advice
about low stomach acid and how to test for/treat it.
Thanks in advance of any help offered.

Hello hilary33,
I use Betaine Plus HP together with digestive enzymes and a bilary support.
It is vital to have the right levels of stomach acid in order to :
digest food and especially protein
empty the stomach and avoid acid reflux
acid is required for the digestion of protein
sterilise the stomach and kill bad bacteria and ingested yeast
allow the absorption of nutrients
Low thyroid hormone will impair the production of our stomach acid as will nutrient deficiencies and even high/low cortisol/aldosterone levels.
If we are hypothyroid everything slows down that's why digestive problems are common.
I use Betaine plus Pepsin too but now only for larger meals and containing meat and harder to digest items. If I've run out I take a few teaspoons of Apple Cider Vinegar in water or juice.
As I understand it, we must take Betaine Plus until things improve .... Some people take months to improve ... Some take years. ....! ! .. You will KNOW when you don't need it because it will feel like you've just swallowed a cup full of vinegar ... ! ! !
