It's unusual to have an over range TSH (which would confirm Hypothyroidism) with FT4 right at the top of the range, with Hypothyroidism we normally see high TSH and low FT4.

What are the thyroid test results from 12 April 2017 like?

Your Nov TSH is 5.89 while the lab range is (0.27 - 4.2). We say your TSH is over range because it's higher than the highest end of the laboratory range given which in this case is 4.2. This indicates your thyroid is struggling to function efficiently.

Your Free T4 (FT4) is at the top of the laboratory range because the top of the range given in this case is 24.5 and your FT4 result is 24 which is nearly the top of the range.

As SeasideSusie says, this is unusual.

If you post your other thyroid blood test results here, type them out along with the laboratory ranges then we might be able to help you make sense of them. Have you got thyroid antibodies? Ask your GP to test vitamin levels too. B12, folate, ferritin and vitamin D.

Keep going back to your GP until you clarify what is causing your thyroid dysfunction and your kidney function.

Hi thank you he has booked test for antibodies I will post all results of bloods I have to have B12 injections I will post most of results now may take 10 mins thank you so much

Hi again. I've only just read your first post. Are the inflammation tests raised because of your kidneys ?

Are you under a kidney specialist and an Endocrinologist?

I'll be going back to bed soon. We're out in the morning so will check back later in the day.

Don't know much about kidney treatment, but hope the docs do something to help you feel MUCH better and VERY soon xx

Ask if they will do a FT3 reading as well As the TSH is saying you need more medication the FT4 reading is saying it looks like you have enough so I think you may not be converting enough of the T4 to the T3 which is so important as every cell in our body needs it to work properly. So the results are in the form of FT4 which means it a measurement of the Free T4 in your blood.

It you look on the Thyroid Uk site then there is loads of info that you may find usuful and a list of symptoms. We don't get all of them but worth a look to see if there are any kidney problems on the list . Also info on how to take medication and time to leave before you eat or take other medication. It's a lot to take in but keep reading and checking things till you get used to things you may have to juggle with. They are also the site recommended by NHS Choices for dysfunction incase you get told off for searching on line! Shout out if anything you don't understand.

Get into the habit of asking for a copy of your results so we can help you understand what is happening so you can follow your progress. Thecranges are very important as well though as they differ from lab to lab so without them we would just be guessing.

Just looked at all your photos. Couldn't see a folate or vitamin D result? Ask for these to be tested if not done

The four vitamins that interact with thyroid are B12, folate, ferritin and vitamin D

These all need to be at good levels

Considering you are on B12 injections your B12 result was not very high

How often do you have them? Do you have Pernicious Anaemia or just low B12?

Ferritin is too low. If you like liver then eating this once a week will help otherwise you will need iron tablets. Aiming to get level to 70

Essential to test antibodies

If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).

About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's

Hashimoto's affects the gut and leads to low vitamin levels

Low vitamin levels stop Thyroid hormone working

Poor gut function can lead leaky gut (literally holes in gut wall) this can cause food intolerances. Most common by far is gluten

According to Izabella Wentz the Thyroid Pharmacist approx 5% with Hashimoto's are coeliac, but over 80% find gluten free diet helps significantly. Either due to direct gluten intolerance (no test available) or due to leaky gut and gluten causing molecular mimicry (see Amy Myers link)

But don't be surprised that GP or endo never mention gut, gluten or low vitamins. Hashimoto's is very poorly understood

Changing to a strictly gluten free diet may help reduce symptoms, help gut heal and slowly lower TPO antibodies

All thyroid tests should be done as early as possible in morning and fasting and don't take Levo in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results
