Desperate to lose weight

I'm Gill from Cape Town, South Africa. Been on eltroxin for years.. Hypothyroidism. On New Formulation for a few months. 100mg. I'm so unhappy as I am overweight and can't drop any weight. I just want to be myself again. (I know I'm not alone in this struggle).

100 mcg is a very small dose, you are probably under-medicated. Do you have any blood test results to share with us?

Will see doctor again soon. Upon the last visit he said my Thyroid was barely functioning. Will definitely ask him about potentially upping my dosage. Thank you.

Gill,

Please would you help us - both in getting the right understanding of your situation and to collect information.

If I understand correctly, you are taking Aspen Eltroxin. And that now says New Formulation on the package.

(Eltroxin in the UK and Ireland is a different product made by a different company and with different ingredients!)

Would you be able to post the list of ingredients in this New Formulation product? (If you have the old ingredients list as well, that would be even better. But I can probably find that online somewhere.)

Did you feel any difference when you went to New Formulation Eltroxin?

I wholeheartedly endorse greygoose's response.

Yes I'm taking Aspen, Thyroid preparation. No ingredients listed on bottle. Do I feel any different on new formulation..)(No I don't feel any different ). Weight remained unchanged. Previous meds was Euthyrox 100mg (Merck).

Welcome to the forum, Gillot.

If you post your recent thyroid results and ranges members will be able to advise whether you are optimally dosed. If you are undermedicated it will be almost impossible to lose weight.

The Elevate TSH indicates primary hypothyroidism. T4 and TPO antibody determination indicated

This is as received from pathology after testing. My current dosage is Eltroxin NF: 0.05mg x 2 tablets per day, taken In the morning before breakfast. Hope this is a clearer indication of where I am at, at the moment regarding meds. Thank you.

Gillot,

It very strongly indicates under-dosing. Did the lab not follow their own recommendation and test at least T4?

There are several possible reasons for you being under-dosed - the obvious one being that you have simply not been prescribed enough! However, it is also necessary to consider whether something is affecting absorption. Are you taking the tablets on their own, with a glass of water, and well away from food, drink (other than water), supplements and other medicines?

Are the tablets being stored in a reasonably cool and dry environment, in the dark?

I take the meds early upon rising with coconut water. Will go back to doctor soon to discuss further. Thank so much for your response.
