I had been going to the Drs for years with what I believed was Hypothyroidism I have asked for access to my test results, clearly loads missing, but I have found one from 2001 when my TSH was 15+ I was told this was normal ?, I had no idea what the result was. I had a goiter in my neck so I ask to go private where I was finally diagnosed with Hashimoto. (should they of picked up that I had hypothyroidism at this point)
Missed warning signs ? : I had been going to the... - Thyroid UK
Missed warning signs ?
Yes is the answer. Are you being treated now ? Read and read to learn as much as you can about Hashimotos - the way of eating - the vitamin and mineral testing that is needed - so that you can begin to feel really strong.
Many of us have been un-diagnosed for years - especially with Hashimotos .....
yes i have had treatment for 16 years it was the years before
Are you optimally treated with good results or are you still feeling poorly ? - I am now 71 and after years and years of fighting illness and endless surgical interventions I was not diagnosed with Hashimotos until I was 59 in 2005
. Now that I am feeling well and leading an active life I prefer not to think of the many mistakes that were made regarding my health. I mention this as I often read that chasing the medical authorities can be stressful and unsuccessful and may drain you of positive energy needed to heal.
If you are still feeling unwell do post your results with ranges so people here can support and help.
Wishing you wellness ..... 😊
Sharcott,
An initial high TSH may be disregarded as non-thyroidal illness can elevate TSH. However, you should have been asked to have a follow up thyroid test 2-3 months later when the non-thyroidal illness would be expected to have resolved.
Was thyroid function retested after 2001 by your NHS GP?
I had been going to the Drs for years I had every symptom including bloating and hair loss my pulse was under 60 and I couldn't get up stairs, I was so ill I wanted to kill myself, symtoms and High TSH with a big red warning sign should have said something. I went private because of a goiter in my neck I can see many results which is intersting in itself
Sharcott,
Symptoms can precede abnormal bloods by years. NHS doesn't diagnose by symptoms, NHS diagnoses by TSH over range or FT4 below range. Were subsequent TSH tests over range or FT4 below range?
low T4 nothing else was done until I went private and he said I had been like this for years and my antiboddies were some of the highest he had ever seen and didn't know how my thyroid was still working
I am fuming I was told by one Dr I had too many things wrong with to be ill and I was told I had mental health issues, I was put on antidepressants, I had struggled with three young children for years, 2001 once I went private and got treated all my symptom got better.
Will do, thank you
I have just asked dfor records between 1984 and 2002 and they want £50 for copies and £30 to view them
They are charging me for their time to sit with me while I view them, I said if they hadn't have cocked up I wouldn't be taking their time and under the circumstances I shouldn't have to pay
Sharcott,
I paid £50 for copies of my GP medical records going back 25 years.
I'm not sure whether they are entitled to charge you to view the records. Contact the Information Commissioner's Office to ask. ico.org.uk/for_the_public/p...
How can I attach a photo here please
I think it is well worth paying the £50 to get all the records. That is what I was charged. I'm not sure they can charge you just to view them, but if there are a lot of records you won't be able to copy them or take them in in just an hour or two.
You have to write a letter stating that, under the terms of the Data Protection Act 1998 you want a copy of all your records that exist in any format. Specify that you want a copy of everything - including, but not limited to, letters sent by the surgery, letters received by the surgery, blood test results, doctors' notes, scan results, x-rays, CT scans, MRI scans and anything else you can think of.
You could also say that you would prefer the records on paper or on a USB stick or CD or whatever. This is something I never did, and I wish I had - I got copies on paper and I'm now trying to scan them all and put them on my PC. If I'd got them on a USB stick it would have saved a lot of hassle. But word your request in a way that makes it clear you are prepared to get copies on paper if a USB stick or CD is not possible. You don't want them to turn around and say they can't carry out your request for some reason.
