Dietary advice - perfect health diet/Ray Peat/forefront health/magnesium protocol

When I started on this journey there seemed to be 101 conflicting views on just about everything from what to eat and what supplements to take.

Having spent a lot of time over the past 3 months reading around it does seem that the 4 sources of advice I pay most heed to have a lot in common - I find this most reassuring.

The PHD book had one extraordinary case study over the use of beef liver supplements and the staggering effect on althletic performace under pressure.

Not sure how many other use these liver capsules but will report back if I find they are helpful.

Hey

I'm using desiccated beef liver as well as I can't handle plant based iron.

How many tablets or mcg/day total do you take?

A link to the rats swimming case study - most extraordinary piece of dietary research I have read this year.

Ordered my capsules and will go with one a day of the strongest dose I could find on the web

I have never found iron supplements in any way helpful and have tried most of them - never crossed my mind to consider this option....

Oh I see.

I’m taking 2 x 500mcg. Label RDA is 1 x 500.

I think I read about those rats as well when I was searching for best iron supplement.

My stomach or rather its digestive track very end can’t handle iron from plants. I thought I’ll try with dried liver 2 x 500 which I’m handling very well. No digestive end problems whatsoever or discoloration – you know what I’m talking about.

I’m having my new blood tests done next Friday with iron panels – so I’ll see if those tabs really worked.

I’ll only say it smells like dried fish food when you open the bottle. But as I take quite a few supplements at once, I put my tablets in shot glass and then add other supplementing pills to it. Once finished filling up the glass, fish food smell is gone and doesn’t make me gag anymore.

Tablets are quite big too but you can open them, they’re filled with liver powder. I didn’t try to open and eat it as the smell of unopened tablet makes me gag enough and I’m quite good with swallowing big pills.

Good luck with your new supplementing

Mine are 1500 so no doubt huge.

These supplements are not always spot on - ox bile digestive enzymes were complete hoax and waste of time, beef collagen I remain very unsure over. This is my 3rd go at a beef related supplement.

I try to keep an open mind!

Your progress sounds really positive and please provide an update if you can.

Don't worry about 1500 mcg. You'll be all right.

I got my research on iron supplementing and desiccated liver from bodybuilding forums. They take up to 10 tablets in split dosing a day so 10 x 500 = 5000 mcg.

I'd be willing to take more but the tabs are huge so I kind of settled in between. I also eat fresh liver and huge fan of meat so my dosing is only meant to supplement not restore.

If my bloods are ok I'll stick with 1000 mcg if they're not I'll bring it to maybe double that.

Good post 👍

Ooh... I'm drinking colagen too. Not sure if it's beef though. Although on a 2nd thought probably so nowadays.

My friend swears by it. I'm not so sure myself either.

😉

The most surprising finding of the journey so far is that black real coffee and salted orange juice seem to have had loads of benefits and these are not officially supplements at all....

Coffee is good now?

Didn't know that.

I'm a coffe-holic.

It's one of my top pleasures in life so that's a very good news to me.

Coffee used to keep me awake at night but having sorted my adrenals it is a godsend for the thyroid milk free variety ...and very strong.

In the last few months I have had to reframe just about everything I though was the correct view eg bread and milk cr@p and coffee and orange juice saviours - it is requiring a lot of mental flexibility - I did not take orange juice for years on the basis it was not supposed to be healthy - now i take swigs whenever I possibly can :)

weirdly grapefruit juice is a total no no due to estrogen effects .all horribly complicated .

“More coffee they drank the longer they lived...” very reassuring for anyone who loves the stuff
