Signals of body telling you there is a need to increase NDT dose?

Hi! Can someone tell me if the return of some symtoms that had been improved with NDT is a sign that your body needs more of it? I remember I read it somewhere but can´t remember where... The thing is I am currently taking 1 grain of Thai thiroyd (started with 1/4 and increased antother 1/4 every 2 weeks ) but my throat started to feel sore again, so I was wondering if an increase of another 1/4 could be benefitial or on the contrary it would be better to decrease to 3/4 ? thanks!

Marie0606,

100mcg Synthroid is equivalent to 1.5 grains Thyroid-S so you could increase dose by 1/4 to 1/2 grain to see whether symptoms improve. I would hold at 1.5 grains for 6 weeks and have TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested before increasing further.

Thanks Clutter! I will do as you say, but letting aside the tests, What do you think the sore throat is due to? it is more likely that it could be due to an over or an under dose?

Marie0606,

It could be due to undermedication or it could be nothing to do with medication and that you've got a sore throat which is quite common at this time of year.

I believe - after increasing by 1/4 tablet every two weeks you have now reached 1 grain of NDT? This is not a high dose and it might be that you are not yet on sufficient. 1 gr is said to be around 100mcg levo in its effect (due to containing T3). I am not medically qualified but would continue for a while longer to see if your sore throat improves as sometime it could be due to something else but we may jump to conclusions.
