Two pharmaceutical firms have said they will invest more than £1bn in the UK, creating about 1,850 jobs.

MSD, known as Merck in North America, will support a new research centre in London creating around 950 new posts.

Germany's Qiagen will develop a genomics and diagnostics campus in Manchester, creating up to 800 jobs.

The government said these biotech deals illustrated confidence it its industrial strategy, the details of which it is publishing later.

Would there be any point? At least for the UK market? It's been effectively banned by the NHS. Getting the NHS to unban it will more than likely take years (if it ever happens at all).

Even if it gets unbanned and the price gets reduced, doctors think it is as dangerous as dynamite, so hardly ever prescribe.

Such a shame that so many are denied a quality of life as a result of this withdrawal of T3

In my naivete I wondered if J.Hunt was organising for a cheaper supply of Liothyronine to be made hand in hand with the government !!! :-)

It occurred to me to wonder if health and pharma companies will start moving into the UK because they anticipate the imminent failure of the NHS and want to pick over the corpse.

More likely they want to 'pick up' all the people who are either a) un-diagnosed .. b) diagnosed and not well on T4... c) those who can't afford/too scared/don't know how to go about finding T3 in order to help themselves achieve wellness instead of illness. As people look for help with their huge range of severely debilitating symptoms - and go to their GP - there will be an ever increasing supply of drugs prescribed that will at best almost certainly not be helpful at all, and at worst make an awful lot of people feel ten times worse. I will be forever grateful to Dr. P. for his care, knowledge and books - and giving me the confidence to manage my condition myself. It also occurs to me that with the U.S. Australia, Italy & now France making children's vaccines mandatory, that it may not be long before the UK follows suit, followed in time with adult ones like the flu and anything else they decide to 'cook up'. Not in this house....
