Radioactive iodine scan

So first appt at hosp went well I think, thought it was post partum thyroiditis and told me to reduce Carbmazole to 10mg until I do another blood test in three weeks as t4 is now 18 and was 33 a month ago? then can hopefully come off it.

He wants me to do a radioactive iodine scan to rule out grave disease (antibodies test come back fine)- has anyone else had this? Don't like the sound of it :/

I'm not sure if you're still breastfeeding or not but that scan isn't advisable for breastfeeding women as it uses a small amount of radioactive iodine which is very dangerous for babies and children. I'm not sure how long it stays in the body but you could potentially emit some radiation.

I haven't had it myself but from what my relative said you take a tablet with very small amount of radioactive iodine. The first scan is performed after 4-6 hrs then another one after 24 hrs. Depending on the uptake of iodine the result is given.
