Hi I am new. I have low in range ferritin and below range MCV. I am not taking iron tablets but I was before and I'm wondering if my results entitle me to iron tablets again especially since I have heavy and clotty periods? I have low thyroid diagnosed 2011 but I don't think my symptoms are that at the moment.

NOV 2017

FERRITIN 17 ng/L (15 - 150 premenopausal, 30 - 400 postmenopausal)

RED BLOOD COUNT 4.42 (3.8 - 5.8)

WHITE CELL COUNT 7.13 (4 - 11)

HAEMOGLOBIN 120 g/L (115 - 150)

MCV 77.5 fL (80 - 98)

MCHC 376 (310 - 350)

MCH 28.2 (28 - 32)

HAEMATOCRIT 0.42 (0.37 - 0.47)

PLATELETS 250 (150 - 400)

IRON 9.0 umol/L (6.0 - 26.0)

TRANSFERRIN SATURATION 15 % (12 - 45)

Thanks

Heavy periods are classic sign of being under medicated for thyroid

Post your most recent thyroid results and ranges and members can advise

Also vitamin D, Folate and ferritin

Do you have high thyroid antibodies? This is Hashimoto's or autoimmune thyroid disease

About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's
