I am currently undergoing investigations for addisons disease and Im so confused about my blood results. The GP wont help until I have heard from the hospital consultant. I just want to feel healthy again and be a hands on mum to my 4yr old.

Do you have the blood test results to post (including their reference ranges) or is there a different question? (Apologies if I'm missing something.)

I hope there's a clear diagnosis quite soon for you with a decent treatment plan so that you can be comfortable with your family.

I didnt get much information from my GP just that my blood results for cortisol was below 300 so they could not rule adrenal failure out. They didnt give ranges or an exact number so I dont know what normal levels are. Sorry wasnt really a question as such.

do you know what the normal levels are? I had my test at 9am.

Ask for a print-out of your results. There are no 'normal' ranges, it depends on the lab. If you live in the UK, then it is your legal right to have a print-out, they are YOUR results.

Cortisol blood result range from 150-7-- depending on the range used by your laboratory. What time of day ws your blood taken - cortisol blood tests should be taken between 8-9am.

I had the bloods done at 9am. I have no idea what ranges were used. My gp would literally only read off what the notes on it were not tell me exact numbers as he believes that’s the hospitals job.

150-700 I meant to say!

The best test for adrenals is saliva test 4 times in one day. Blood test will only show cortisol level in the moment but cortisol levels alter a lot during the day. More info here: adrenalfatigue.org/saliva-t...

I have read about the saliva tests a few times but it’s not something I can afford to do privately sadly.

I understand. Would it be possible to ask GP or Endo for it?

I don’t think they do it on the nhs from what I’ve read but I’ll speak to them when I have my next appointment

Thankyou x

Adrenal fatigue is not the same as Addison's disease which is a life threatening condition.

For info on testing for Addison's - how to prepare for it, timing, how tests should be carried out, and how to interpret the results - see this document :

imperialendo.co.uk/Bible201...

and search the document for the word "Addison".
