My GP is willing to give me a private prescription for T3 that l have to source myself. Can anyone tell me where l can buy CYNomel from Sanofi-Aventis which is French.

Thanks

Yvonne

Not sure where you can buy this from, but can i ask why the french T3 ?

I used it once in the past and have to say it was by far the best T3 i ever used, but i have no idea where to get it from anymore. It was much more expensive than greek/turkish T3 though.

I haven’t used T3 before and I’m going mad trying to find out where l can buy this online. I understand that the Greek supply has dried up. The French one was recommended.

Well if you message me i can give you the email for the cyprus supplier. If you find someone selling the Sanofi T3 please let me know.

😐 yes please l would like the details. What brand do you get? I will let you know if l get any info on the French one.

in reply toYSpencer

I buy the French one every 4 weeks here in France. I will try and find out how you could get it with a prescription and then sent direct to the UK. It would have to be a french online pharmacy site. The price here is 6.96 euros for 2 boxes. i.e. 60 pills.

Hi could you help me with information on how to get the French t3,at the moment I send my NHS prescription to Germany for thybon henning which is a good t3 but my prescription is for 60 tablets they only send packs of 50 or 100 my doctor won't change amount, she doesn't know I send my prescription abroad but Mercury pharma uk brand is of very poor quality that doesn't make me feel any better.

helvellaAdministrator in reply toRosie2poppy

Rosie2poppy,

You'd need a prescription for 25 microgram tablets - whereas, as you know, Thybon is 20 mircogram like the UK.

Rosie2poppy profile image
Rosie2poppy in reply tohelvella

Thanks for replying,do you know any where else I can send my prescription for t3 I do think thybon henning is a really good brand but only getting 50 a month instead of 60 is causing me problems.

helvellaAdministrator in reply toRosie2poppy

Rosie2poppy,

Can't for the life of me see why GP writes 60 when UK packs are 28 (hence, 56 could make sense). Once not writing a multiple of 28, why not write 50 or 100 or any other number you request?

Rosie2poppy profile image
Rosie2poppy in reply tohelvella

My GP doesn't know I send my prescription to Germany she thinks I take MP which can come in any amount of tablets because it's not a blister pack usually a small tub my GP refuses to help me get thybon henning as its unlicensed in the UK.I only get t3 because endo says I need it,GP resents prescribing it.

helvella profile image
helvellaAdministrator in reply toRosie2poppy

Rosie2poppy,

But Mercury Pharma pack 28 tablets in a tub.

So the expected, the default, prescribing quantity would be 28 or a multiple. I'd expect the computer system to require some extra effort to prescibe any other quantity.

I only know my prescription says 60 tablets I don't ? My GP because it's painful for her to even prescribe them in the first place.

in reply toRosie2poppy

I have tried French online site Pharmacies and no one supplies the T3. I live in France and buy it from my local Pharmacy.

Ask your local pharmacy if they can obtain the French one and the cost involved.

The name is Cynomel and it is made by Sanofi Aventis.

Sorry l use Thybon Henning from Germany and they are 25mcg tablets and l get 100 for approx £40.

YSpencer profile image
YSpencer in reply to

Sorry Josie l made a mistake my tablets are 20mcg not 25mcg as l said yesterday. If you have a prescription you need to find a small independent chemist who is willing to get them for you using IDIS which is a wholesale importer. If you go through these messages you will find more information. I did this with my first prescription and paid about £40 for 50 tablets. Your prescription has to have the correct words on it.

You could ask your pharmacist of they will source it for you? It's surprising what can be found sometimes, even if it does have a routine PIP number. There is, on most systems an option to search for non-standard supplies.

Once ordered, the PIP would be stored for reordering on their systems.

I'd also be asking if it can be sourced, how much the prescription would cost to fill.

Good luck with it.

Have been to a local pharmacy today and they are going to get me some prices. I’m calling in to see them again next week. 😊

YSpencer in reply toMMaud

Hi. Can you tell me what a PIP is please.

MMaud profile image
MMaud in reply toYSpencer

PIP is the item's unique code in the Formulary, which in turn is sort of the Pharmacists product catalogue.

Yspencer,

Your high street pharmacist can order it for you. They may need to open an account with IDIS or another of the specialist wholesale importers in this link thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/treatm...

YSpencer profile image
YSpencer in reply toClutter

Sorry for being thick but l dont know what you mean by IDIS. I did take a look at some of those but they looked like they were for health professionals.

Clutter profile image
Clutter in reply toYSpencer

YSpencer,

IDIS is a wholesale importer. You said you had a prescription so ask your pharmacist to order the Sanofi Aventis T3 via IDIS or one of the wholesalers in the link I posted.

YSpencer profile image
YSpencer in reply toClutter

Thanks for that. Will all pharmacies do this for me?

Clutter profile image
Clutter in reply toYSpencer

YSpencer,

They could/should, which isn't to say they will.

YSpencer profile image
YSpencer in reply toClutter

Thank you for your help. I will call into my local chemist tomorrow and see what they say.

YSpencer profile image
YSpencer in reply toClutter

Can you tell me exactly what the GP needs to write on the prescription. He has asked my to tell him exactly so that he doesnt make a mistake.

Clutter profile image
Clutter in reply toYSpencer

YSpencer,

I would check with your pharmacist. I don't know whether it is sufficient to write Liothyronine 25mcg or whether Sanofi Cynomel 25mcg has to be specified.

YSpencer profile image
YSpencer in reply toClutter

Ok thanks l will ask when l go back to see them next week.

helvella profile image
helvellaAdministrator

YSpencer,

Bear in mind that Cynomel is in 25 microgram tablets. So if the prescription is written for 20 micrograms, that could be a problem. But if written for 25 micrograms, that more or less forces them to obtain product from abroad.

YSpencer profile image
YSpencer in reply tohelvella

Thank you for this info. Nothing to do with this illness seems straight forwards.

helvella profile image
helvellaAdministrator in reply toYSpencer

YSpencer,

If written for 20 micrograms, there is the option of them supplying Sanofi Henning Thybon from Germany. Ask the pharmacist what they would need in order to do that rather than supply UK-licensed products (at their extortionate prices).

My doctor said he could not give me a private prescription because he was my GP. I can only assume he is being untruthful if your GP is willing to give you one. Sorry for jumping in but I am so confused now.

Good luck

helvella profile image
helvellaAdministrator in reply tojan1780

jan1780,

It is not a simple issue. The ability of an NHS GP to write a private prescription, especially for a substance that is at least theoretically available on the NHS, is subject to much discussion and argument. The ethical, contractual and other arguments are complicated.

Therefore, quite possibly, your GP is simply following what he has read or thought through for himself. Be fair and don't assume the worst - unless you find out for sure.

jan1780 profile image
jan1780 in reply tohelvella

Thankyou for that, much appreciated.

I have been feeling low and it just feels like the world is against me.

I won't assume the worst on this occasion. Thanks for your time

Have a good day

I actually put the wrong thing im getting a named patient prescription and I’ve been asking for T3 for years. It really is up to your GP you could try a different doctor. You still have to get it filled and that is my problem.

jan1780 profile image
jan1780 in reply toYSpencer

Thanks for that

Too be honest I haven't anything left in me anymore.

Would never have dreamed having thyroid problems would open up a can of worms.

My GP is going to give me a named patient prescription, l put private prescription by mistake. It’s down to me to give him the correct information to write on the prescription and then to get it filled,

Hi I have checked out six French online Pharmacy sites and Cynomel isn't on any of them.

France is around 40 years behind the times they still pay in the Supermarket with cheques.

They don't have fast checkouts either.

Your best bet may be Germany.

Thanks for looking. I have been to see a local independent pharmacy this afternoon and they are going to get me some prices. They also told me that T3 is prescribed by my surgery so l will be having another chat with my GP.

Hi All. I am still trying to get some T3. Have seen an Endo who refused point blank to give it to me. I have had so many blood tests doneand all appear to be ok. I have been given the name of an Endo in Harrogate who l am going to ask to see.

It has been suggested to me that there people out there on the forum who can suggest places where l can buy it for just over £20 for 100 tablets. As l have been given a price of £315 for 28 from Boots. Pleasee can anyone give me details of where l can get them from at a better price.

Thanks

Yvonne
