Reasons for high cost of our medications.

When I picked up my NDT prescription last Wednesday (for $120!) I noticed that instead of the manufacturer being Activis it said Allergan. That sent alarm bells going off in my head because the last time something like that happened I ended up with two years of horrible hypothyroidism. So I started to dig around a little bit and discovered the following – and, I should say that my opinions expressed here are based on my own personal experience.

Once upon a time there was Forest Pharmaceuticals (an American compay), these guys made great Levo and great Armour NDT. After five good years on their Levo they were bought out by Actavis (in 2014 for $25 billion a Swiss co.). The result was a lousy Levo which made me ill for 2 years but they apparently left Armour alone. Then in 2015 Actavis was bought by Allergan, an Ireland based pharma company famous for Botox. The sale was for $5.9 billion. Also in 2015 Allergan sold its generics department to TEVA and Israel based company for $40.5 billion. The TEVA sale turned out to be a disaster.

It is a little more detailed than this simplistic series of events. Companies Warner/Chilcot and Watson Pharma also got in on the act somewhere and a guy called Brent Sunders, who master minded a lot of this, is said to have spent $100 billion in one year!

And I think this gives us some insight as to why some of us who have to pay for medicine out of our own pockets are paying SO much. It is so disgusting, they get rich off our illnesses.
