Still ill...

And my husband has just left me. Im sure the weight gain hasn't helped. How can I deal with everything? Moved to a place where I know no-one recently (before he left) so am all alone. No family either. Came off the lowest dose of antidepressants a month ago should I go back on? The Doctor still thanks I'm taking them. Have not been good on diet which I guess does not help my heath and well being. Weight - massive.

I'm so sorry to hear of your predicament, and please, you should not blame yourself. I can't help you with the personal side of things except to lend you my sympathy and hope for a brighter future for you.

Do you have any blood test results that you could post, so that we can advise on next steps? Are you taking any throid medication?

How long have you been on 50mcg? That's a starting dose for an adult, so I hope you've not been on that any longer than 6 weeks before re-testing. That said, getting TH up to optimal levels for the individual can take quite a long time.

I'm sure you know about vitamins and minerals needed for the levo to work properly, but if not, you could look at SeasideSusie's replies to people on the forum, as she really knows her stuff.

First of all I am very sorry about your situation but it may be a ray of hope for you even if it doesn't seem so at the moment.

First of all don't blame how you feel or appear as it is all down to being hypothyroid and most probably, and very common, not being given sufficient thyroid hormones to raise your metabolism due to hypo.

I am not medically qualified but if you've been fine without anti-'depressants I'd stay off them and you can then begin to sort out your thyroid hormones.

Maybe being in a new place you will have to change your doctor, so enquire as to who is a reasonable/good doctor and register.

Make an appointment for a new blood test. It has to be the very earliest and fasting (you can drink water) and allow a gap of 24 hours between your last dose of levothyroxine and the test and take afterwards.

Ask for TSH, T4, T3, Free T4, Free T3 and thyroid antibodies. B12,Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate.

Get a print-out from the surgery of the results with the ranges and post on a new question and members will comment.

You can improve your health with the help of a good doctor and support from our members.

Sorry to hear your situation, no fun for you I'm sure. Leaving the medical aspect aside, what area are you in cause there are lots of thyroid groups setting up where they meet to discuss health and have a coffee and chat. This would give you some support and a bit of a social. I am in Gloucestershire and we have a small group that meet regularly and we have become great friends through this. You are welcome to join us but if we are out of area for you, maybe post on here requesting info re groups in your area. Keep your chin up, at the very least you will always have someone to chat to on here. xx

My sympathy and prayers for you . It would be nice if your Dr would give you some T3 . I'm sure that would help you . I'm not a Dr but I read it all over that a small dose even of T3 can make a difference even with your meds . I hope you get yourself a new Dr that will work with you .
