Healthunlocked better than a Gp......

Is it just me or have you found so much more information and support on here than any Gp or Consultant?

I cannot tell you how much better I feel in taking specific vitamins and tweaking them along with my diet. I've even lost weight. The only thing hasn't changed is thinning hair.

Just a big thank you to everyone on here who share their stories, experiences and expertise. It has been a great help to me to read and changed my symptoms immensely.

Its very helpful when we've gone through the mill in wondering why we aren't improving and getting no further with the medical profession and left to suffer with no further idea of where possibly to turn too.

Members' family/friends haven't a clue why this person, at one time active and healthy, is now taking medication but seems much worse with more complaints and definitely very, very unwell.

It's worse when family members aren't compassionate and believe the doctor and not the patient. After all doctors must know best!

Doctors and endocrinologists especially when you've waited so long to see a Specialist (who surely must understand and has healed patients) to find the person dismissive and callous - even tells you you don't have hypothyroidism or some other excuse, like depressed or hypo-chondriac or mentally ill in stead of hypothyroidism. The latter especially when taking thyroid hormone replacements and the insistence that levothyroxine is a 'perfect' hormone replacement. It isn't for thousands of people. It is assumed one-size fits all and bloods are 'in range' so the patient must be wrong: prescribed anti-d's, pain relief; stomach meds etc etc - some even told they have a mental condition (might well have if professional hasn't tested FT3).

I only recovered my health through Thyroiduk.org.uk before this forum was started and am well instead of not knowing where to turn too.

If you're not a member of Thyroiduk.org.uk you can join and I'll give you a link. They are the ones behind the scenes in going forward to change attitudes. £20 per annum or concessionary.

This forum really has changed my life for the better. I spent three years being dismissed by endocrinologist and had already started to accept that I would never feel normal and this was my new reality. But then I found you guys and after following all of your recommendations I just feel so much better: I have energy, I've lost weight...

Thank you for letting us know we can become members of Thyroid UK. I am definitely going to do that now. Anything I can do to support the anazibg work you do.

It is a lot cheaper than paying an Endocrinologist if you are disappointed with the outcome. Of course there are some good ones and TUK also have a recommended list.

TUK work behind the scenes and Lyn Mynott started it in a wooden shed in her garden. They've only just recently replaced their computers, I believe :) She also gave evidence at the Scottish Parliament.

We had a Conference a couple of weeks ago. There's one about every five years.

Blakcat this forum is great i joined 3 months ago and knew diddley squat about the thyroid and vitamins. Gps and endos no very little about this poorly managed disease, so thankgod for this forum and the very knowledgeable and supportive people on here who get you through the bad and desperate times when you just want to feel the slightest bit better.

So while im here a big thanks again to all here!!👏💛

People forget doctors aren't taught about nutrition.

They are taught in Med School basic signs and symptoms of vitamin and some mineral deficiencies. However the majority of those practising now would have been told we have eradicated these deficiencies in the UK so it would be very rare to see them in practice and if you do it is in this stereotypical group of patients and not serious.

It is then not surprising when they are confronted with people with thyroid disorders and autoimmune diseases including thyroid ones, they don't understand why they have multiple nutrient deficiencies along with confusing signs and symptoms that go with it.
