It's been 5months since I've been on here nothing much has changed just load more blood tests....I have over and under active thyroid disease with graves. I was advised by doctors to take 150mcg of thyroxine but it was to much as my hair was falling out so I take 150mcg now nothing changes. Still loosing weight loss of appetite depression cold All the time dry skin mood swings tired all time pain in joints gum disease I can go on. But still try and get up and get on with my day. Everyone thinks I'm normal..am from the outside.. inside body is totally messed up. Wake up some days hoping it would disappear but never does! So just try and get on with it best I can. I just pray they find a cure. If anyone wants to ask any questions or just talk feel free..always willing to help. ! ☺

Yazz1,

Can you post your recent thryoid results with the lab ref ranges (the figures in brackets after results)? You can't be over active and under active at the same time. The fact that you are taking Levothyroxine only indicates you are hypothyroid (under active) although it is possible to have Graves antibodies too.

You are probably under medicated on 100mcg as most doctors are conservative about dosing and under medicate rather than over medicate. Being under medicated will cause joint pain and fatigue. Low/deficient ferritin and vitamin D can also cause joint pain, fatigue and low mood. Ask your GP to test ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate which are commonly low in hypothyroid patients.

Am due for blood test which getting done after new year I've been referred to the specialist at the hospital I explained my symptoms and she said it is possible not commen for some one to have both. As all my symptoms are of over active thyroid. But blood result shows am under active. My brain is on constant over drive on the go all the time. I can be having normal conversation with someone and my voice starts to rise I get louder start speaking faster and i don't even realise im doing it its frustrating. But my body is so tired all the time got no energy no motivation so depressed.im 5'8 in height about 9stonez now. As I was 11an hlf stones healthy 2013 till End of 2015 feb weight has started to drop. I'm anemic and low iron. Only place put weight on is stomach puffs up like baloon. Had these issues since I was 18 am 41now and still suffering.when I get my bloods done again I will get results. I'm just so tired of fighting my body to try and improve it. 😩

But thank you so much for your advice really appreciate it.😆

I was on 2oomcg levothyroxine but that was too much so take 150mcg and sometimes take it down to 100mcg. Doctors gave done so many blood tests either come out fine to low or to high.

Most people on levo need low TSH around (or even slightly below) 1 to be adequately treated. Do you have your latest blood test results.

If they have not been done ......Suggest you ask GP to check levels of vitamin d, b12, folate and ferratin. These all need to at good (not just average) levels for thyroid hormones (our own or replacement ones) to work in our cells

As you have high antibodies then you may find adopting 100% gluten free diet can help reduce symptoms, and lower antibodies too.

You do not need to have ANY obvious gut issues, to still have poor nutrient absorption or low stomach acid or gluten intolerance

Try and eat veg and fruit. I know I have to cut it out. But I'll be living off water lol.. my iron is low hence bruising Al the time am anemic too. Am due to get bloods done which will do after new yr. So confused over and under active thyroid levels and graves. 😤 22yrz dealing with it. Trying not to give up. Will update wen get bloods done.

If I had known giving up gluten would make such a fantastic difference, I would have tried it over 20 years ago. Much easier than I thought it would be. But I guess if you get such a positive result, it's easy to stick to.

Doesn't work for everyone, but certainly works for me.

Gluten free worked for me too, both my daughters and my stomach puff up like you mention and my hair falls out if have gluten plus gum disease and a lot of pain in joints all of which I had since childhood and all of which dissappeared after going GF along with a multitude of other problems. can also cause massive weight loss and nutritional deficiency so definately worth a shot in my opinion - you have nothing to lose :o)
