I am currently taking about 3 grains of nature thyroid and was going to take a mix of T4 and T3. Just noticed that my T4 is out of date so will be just taking T3 for a while. It feels better intuitively but how do I do this?
Looks like I am going to be taking T3 only for ... - Thyroid UK
Looks like I am going to be taking T3 only for a while.
Mandyjane,
Why not get Levothyroxine from your GP?
Blood within normal range. They know how ill I can get without it but will not budge.
Mandyjane,
I've taken T3 up to 12 months past expiry with no adverse effects. edition.cnn.com/2012/10/08/...
3 grains NDT is equivalent to 75mcg T3 but as there is only 27mcg T3 in 3 grains I would not switch straight to 75mcg.
I have to play my dosing with NDT very much by ear anyway. I take 1.25grains morning and evening but add more as the day goes according to how whossy my head feels. I have just taken 1.25 grains at 3,30 as head swimming, still a bit swimmy so will take another little bit soon unitll head feels better. Then I will take 1.25 bed time. I think I will start with 25mcg in morning. Cut up another tab into 4 and see how it goes. I have only got about 8 50mcg levo tabs but will use if not well on the T3. Such a shame doing well on NDT. I think I will speak to neurologist to see if she can help.
Mandyjane,
Why are you switching from NDT?
There has been a run on it clutter. The brand I take nature thyroid is out of production untill the end of october (the manufactors are saying) They also make wp thyroid which is also out of production and all the other meds such as armour are all out of stock as a result. Prices have also gone sky high. I am lucky to have found somewhere to buy T3 at the moment as I think lots of people like me are buying as NDT unavailable. This is why someone posted from Cyprus as has been unable to get some T3 on pharmacys there.
A couple of years ago I would have just waited but I am really unwell if I miss half a day with out taking some. I am worried I might go into a coma as lack of thyroid hormones affects my brain so rapidly now. I have a horrible feeling that if I did the doctors would just look at my blood results and not treat.
Manadyjane,
I've not heard that there is any difficulty in obtaining Thai NDT, Thyroid-S and Thiroyd, and that has always been a lot more affordable than American and Canadian NDT.
As far as I'm aware Uni-Pharma T3 has never been available OTC in Cyprus.
I will look into it. Unfortunatlet I had some thyroid S and some of the bovine stuff but got rid of it all some months back. I was flat out on the tinyest bit of thyroid S but would be willing to try again in circumstances. It just knocked me out but things change. It takes a while to come though and I dont think for sale on Amazon anymore.
Mandyjane,
No, no longer on that site.
Clutter. There is some stuff made in UK sold by health food online place. I have forgotten name of it . Unregulated and not standardised. I think Dr P uses it a lot these days. It might be a better option and faster delivery.
Mandyjane,
I think one of our wonderful Administrators took out of date T3 for about a year and there was also a link to a sight that did testing on thirty year old meds (found in a bunker or somewhere deserted) it showed as no difference in potency. I could be wrong but as T4 isn’t that active it might not make a difference. How out of date is it? I’d suggest calling a few pharmacies to check on their take but they’ll probably follow the rules. Also was it your last prescription? I’d take it back and get it exchanged if it was. I know this wasn’t an answer to your question - but hopefully a solution.
EbonyEvans,
'Twas I who took T3 past expiry date. I've posted the link re expired meds above in reply to MandyJane.

In the end, some loss of potency is not the end of the world - we can compensate by taking slightly more. (Whereas with aspirin or paracetamol it is unlikely most people would notice a 10 or 20% reduction in potency even if they knew it had occurred. So probably no need to compensate at all.)
The more difficult problem is knowing what has happened to the thyroid hormone - has any of it degraded into other substances that also have significant biological impact?
