Autoimmunology is the new profession in medicine so one day we may really get support from the medical profession.
Dr. O'Bryan explained the science behind antibodies. When cells get old the body sends antibodies to get rid of those old cells. You are killing off only as many old cells as you are making new cells. Your antibody test will be in the normal range. But when the number of antibody cells go up you are then killing more cells than you are making. If you are killing off more thyroid cells than you are making every day, you may have high counts for a long time and not realize it. One day you have now killed enough cells so now you are feeling more fatigue and cold and your symptoms may cause you to seek a doctor and EVENTUALLY after a dreadful length of time you may be diagnosed. But even after takin
thyroid hormone, this does not stop the activity. You have to find the trigger to the autoimmune attacks!
Dr. O'Bryan did not suffer from hypothyroidism but rather had myelin antibodies which would be leading to a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. He obviously overcame this form of autoimmunity and explains that if a toxin binds to an intestinal cell (or a brain cell, or a kidney cell), the body will attack not only the toxin but the cell to which it is attached. After the cell is damaged then more antibodies have to remove that along with the toxin.
Our ancestors did not have to deal with lets say red dye #3 for instance, so modern day additives are bringing about this new attack which is now so serious that Dr. Mark Hyman, a functional medicine pioneer, now heads the department at the Cleveland Clinic which is a major portion of that hospital.
Dr. O'Bryan had a series called Betrayal. I don't know if it's available but this excerpt makes me feel it would be worth locating. It also seems to me that antibody tests of all kinds may be very helpful and possibly the first tests to take in making a diagnosis.
