My ferritin was 43 and my b12 285. I've started supplementing how long does it usually take to get results? Weeks or months? I'm a week in and no better ( I know it's early - I'm desperate!) thanks in advance

It took about 4 months before I started feeling better when supplementing B12, folate and vitamin D, ferritin was reasonably ok. It took about 6 months to really feel I was getting somewhere. I don't know if other people are the same or not.

Thankyou. I shall try and learn some Patience. It's so bad I've just been googling "can a 30 year old get dementia from hashimotos?!" It's so bad! :(

I think the advice to try one supplement at a time on your other post is good as anything can have side effects because all tablets have fillers and an outer shell which could cause a reaction for some people. I

t does take time to get well again though because your body has to absorb and utilise ithe vitamins. You're not getting dementia though.

Did you get tested for pernicious anaemia and rule out coeliac disease? If you don't start feeling better then go back to your GP and get them to do more blood tests and look into things further.

Thankyou so much . I feel a little more at ease...

I haven't been tested for either of those. I'd be surprised if I was coeliac always ate a lot of gluten before giving up and didn't have dire problems. Although should check.. Docs said they knew I wasn't anaemic because my blood count was too high for someone with anaemia, they didn't test though!

Il hold on for another week or so see if I improve. *fingers crossed!* :)

Did you check with the HealthUnlocked Pernicious Anaemia forum? Your B12 doesn't seem that high to me but I'm not expert. They will give you the best advice. Once you supplement with B12 you won't be able to get reliable additional tests so check it out by posting your results on the Pernicious Anaemia forum and find out what they advise. Give a bit of background info and a list of your symptoms for best advice.

It does take a long time for blood levels of b12 to improve, I'm afraid. If levels don't get into the 500's within a few months I'd definitely be asking about getting injections. The situation (for me) is worse with iron though and I think I'm someone who cannot absorb non-heme iron very well at all (even with vitamin C).

Not what you're looking for?
