Started levothyroxine

Started 50mcg levothyroxine by GP today and getting retested 6 - 8 weeks later is this right? Also gotten tested for intrinsic factor antibodies, given loading dose of B12 and vit D and told not to start folic acid until intrinsic factor. Also complete blood count shows below range MCV and above range MCHC and started on ferrous fumarate

Your doctor seems to be doing all the right things I'd make an appointment in a couple of weeks for a six week appointment as you need the earliest one. I think you know it should also be a fasting one (you can drink water) and allow a gap of 24hours between last dose and test.

That is a good result and I'm relieved you're being tested for IF antibodies and that you received the correct advice about *not* starting folic acid until testing reveals a cause. And, utterly delighted that you're receiving loading dosages of both vitamins D and B12 without a scrap

Did you go and look at the PAS link I gave yesterday? It's worth you posting your results there, with the additional information from your FBC (the MCV etc.).

SeasideSusie advises that ferrous fumate and other iron preparations like that are best taken with vitamin C. Her replies are a mine of information on supplementation and how to do it.

Depending on when you take your levothyroxine, you need to take your iron a good 4hrs away from it. So, you might need some careful timing of the levo. and when you take your supplements.
