Hi, I am a 47 year old female with hypothyroidism, which take 50 mcg of levothyroxin daily. I also take a ton of other medications, which in at least the United States, only annointed CRAZY persons take. Glad to share any and all, just not sure enough room!

I am blessed that my primary care provider, will listen to me; if I defer, don't quite understand, or do not agree with his rationale, I call him on it. He does not treat me as a "DUMB BELL OR IDIOT." True, there are times when I do not feel as if being heard but pacified; I just cannot leave the situation with what seems a solid, rationale, but understand he is just giving his best guess.

I have an autistic daughter, who also has a seizure disorder, and he is her physician too. He is great, actually acknowledges she exists, when she has an appointment, and much patientce. Takes his time to ensure he has evaluated her well.

He has a sister that has Down's Syndrome, and love her to pieces; although he does not go on, and on about it, but mentioned some similarities, personality, family getting excited about developing cognitiion, etc. These are not rehearsed; I really do not know when the man sleeps, he would never find time to rehearse a lot of "PSYCHOBABBLE."

Last, I am a mid-level advanced practice nurse; I am not aversed that this has something to do with my doc. I do not know everything, but I am an excellnt researcher, and believe a gift, especially when looking, ensuring, evaluating my daughter. I cannot treat or diagnose her, but background helps me understand some of these theories or theorems I would have never dreamed of before.

I appreciate the opportunity to be on this forum. I am happy to research or as my family designates it "DIG,' for necessary or supportive information, when time allows.

I am anxious to learn from all of you, which I have, but just never have taken time to finish my profile. I feel it is never complete, "overachiever." Glad to answer any questions I can.

Hi and welcome. 50 mcg is really only a starter dose and very few hypos would be optimum on that dose. Have you any recent thyroid blood test results to share with ranges? Ideally TSH, ft4, ft3, antibodies, vit d, vit b12, folate and ferritin. Because no matter how understanding & friendly the doctor, if they don't understand thyroid you dont feel well! Remember that what can appear to be mental health problems can actually be caused by hypo - the brain needs a lot of t3!

Agree with startagaingirl... I am also in the USA and you are lucky to have a doc who listens to you but... that doesn't necessarily translate into being effectively treated. 50mcgs is such a tiny dose. How long have you been hypo and on this small dose? When did you last have labs done and can you share the results if they were run recently? This site has some remarkably knowledgeable folks who are kind and caring. Labs will help them immensely in helping you.
