Overactive thyroid reducing meds

Hi, I was diagnosed overactive thyroid in April 2017 and went on 20mg carbimzole. Beginning of sept they reduced it to 20mg every other day but after just missing a few pills I felt terrible. So they put me on 10mg every day, I've been on this for two weeks now.

I'm losing weight and can feel my heart rate going up. Mood seems ok though. Just a few questions;

Is there an adjustment period when change meds that causes relapse in symptoms and if so how long? Wondering if should stick it out bit longer on 10mg or up to 15mg?

I had taken herbal nytol a few nights, could this affect the thyroid at all?

Does what time you take meds Mage a difference?

Thanks

When is your next blood test due, Sarah? If you're still not right after a couple of weeks, and your symptoms feel like a relapse, maybe worth talking to the endo or your GP? We know reducing the dose can be hit and miss

to get right - and it may not work (initially) anyway.

If you've been taking Nytol, have you also been tired through not getting enough sleep? I've noticed my symptoms tend to come back if I get over -tired.

Don't know about interaction with Nytol - perhaps ask the pharmacist?

Thank you for the reply.

One of my symptoms when overactive was insomnia and when I went to 20mg every other day it returned but been ok last few nights so haven't taken nytol so thought that was a good sign until I got on scales! I guess my main query was whether it's normal to have temporary relapse in symptoms when change meds in which case stick with the 10mg a day a bit longer. Got bloods in a few weeks but I'm due back at work after mat leave and don't want to relapse right as due back.

The tiredness thing might be true, I did miss a lot of kip when couldn't sleep and had few rough nights with baby. I didn't realise that made it worse

Sorry, can't help re symptoms when carbi is reduced, as my FT3 has so far refused to come down, and I'm still on 40mg/day. Have hope for endo appointment in a couple of weeks, as my weight has begun to go up (:(, need to get on top of that) and my heart rate is down.

You need to take carbimazole every day as it has a very short half life. If you take 10mg per day split it into two 5mg doses 12 hours apart. Any increase or reduction in carbimazole dosage takes 4 to 6 weeks to take effect on your levels. You need to get a copy of your blood results including reference ranges so you can work out what is going on
