Histamine/Mast Cells and Hypothyroidism

I have been put on disodium cromoglycate (a mast cells stabiliser) as of this morning. This is because I release too much histamine. Does anyone know if this medication will make a thyroid problem worse?

That's interesting Thyroiditis86. Have you actually been diagnosed with a mast cell disorder?

I haven't heard of this medicine before, so looked it up on Wiki. It seems it comes in various forms depending on what symptoms are being treated. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cromo...

Is there a PIL (Patient Information Leaflet) accompanying the medicine you've been dispensed? If so, I would first check that to see what interactions and side effects are listed.

If you haven't been given a PIL, then maybe talk to the dispensing pharmacist who should be able to help.

I can't help you with the drug you've been put on. I just wanted to point out that some people feel better eating a low-histamine diet. Would that help you?

Hi Thyroiditis86 - I also don't know about your medication but will look it up for me!

I found this website and her research very helpful:

healinghistamine.com

Good luck finding answers, mast cell problems are a relatively new field and not many GPs are aware. How did you get your diagnosis?

How did you get on? I have been reading soem interesting things about T cells activation - which can be an indicator of gluten intolerence. Co incidentally, there are studies citing disodium cromoglycate as reducing the T cell activation, which might on it's own be a good thing, but I am yet to find any research which explores whether it would be a good thing in the case of someone who is hypothyroid.

Did you find the Cromolyn helpful? I have histamine issues and thyroid issues and have been trying to get my doctor to prescribe this to me
