Reverse t3?

Is it possible to have reverse t3 issues if t4 is below range (on ndt at this present time ) or is it something you would generally only have a problem with if t4 is very high ,thanks.

You could have high rT3 with low FT4 if there's something else wrong with the body, such as a virus, or low calorie in-take, or high cortisol. But, whether or not that is an 'issue' has not yet been proved.

RT3 is a safety mechanism for the body, preventing it from wasting energy when the body needs to heal, or needs energy for other things.

You really need a test including FT3 as you might simply not be on enough. I am on NDT and because of the higher ratio of T3/T4 my FT4 is always bumping along the bottom of the range but my FT3 is nicely at the top end and I am now well. If you have a good amount of FT3 having a lower FT4 is not a problem.

Thanks a couple of month ago t4 was very low on range and t3 roughly middle of range ..then last week t4 had dropped to below range ..approx 9 (10.40-22.50)but t3 wasn't done but was wondering if t3 had dropped too...I'm going to order a test to confirm either way but wasn't sure whether it warrant a reverse t3 test...I'm having what I would consider more 'hyper' symptoms but temperatures still lowish ...

I personally would save my cash and go for another thyroid test which includes FT3 to see where your levels stand. when I tested just before switching my conversion ratio was very good at 3.5:1 after sorting out nutrient levels (i switched due to muscular issues). If you havent had one recently I think a nutrient panel would be better value.

As GG said there is usually a good reason for converting to rT3 rather than T3 if your FT4 isnt high. The higher T3 in NDT can help to block and wash out a build up of rT3 but obviously not as well as pure T3 only would.

My bloods are currently good but I have to split my NDT dose or I feel jittery for a few hours after taking it (and get a banging headache). If your Ft3 is good this might be an option to consider, some people just dont tolerate single dosing with T3 products and cant get their NDT to the right dose without splitting.

My vitamins and iron levels are good at the moment and my conversion was ok before ndt ...I think I just need to get my dose right up but by raising the last quarter (from 1.75-2 grain )I was having what felt like hyper symptoms (I posted on that a few wk ago)instead of feeling better so I dropped back again...but my temperatures just were not screaming over replacement so I've raised up again and I'm going to 'ride through'the symptoms and see if they subside and of course get t4/t3 tested....I may even revert back to splitting my dose now it's a higher one (2.25 grain)and see how I go on before looking /trying other options .Thanks
